Chapter 03: Amitié

"Just read the instructions! Why do you think they included it in the box?" Jade screamed at the green-eyed narcissist. She was on her computer, browsing for new songs that she could learn and create a cover of. These covers, however, had not seen daylight at all. They were buried deep in her computer storage.
Being a music lover, Jade loved to create and recreate songs that expressed her feelings. She told the boys a couple of times before, that music is a universal language. If words failed to convey her thoughts, a melody would help. Her passion was there, the only thing missing was her confidence. She was afraid that others would not appreciate her creations. In fact, Jade had always been afraid to disappoint people, so she rather kept them to herself.
"But I can't see the back of my head... What if people talk about it behind my back? Do me a favour, please.." Dominic peeped from the tiny door gap, which brought Jade back to reality.
With an amplified loud sigh, she closed her laptop and turned her body and chair to face the door. Scrunching her face to express her slight annoyance, she motioned him to enter her room. A smile plastered across his face as he entered, skipping, like a happy child. In his arms, he was carrying a box of dye, gloves, a shower cap, a comb, a brush, scissors and newspapers.
"Woah, looks like someone's prepared," Jade stood up, in awe, and clapped exaggeratedly as he placed the items on her table.
"What do you mean! I was born ready. You were the problem," he picked up the scissors and cut a hole in the middle of the newspaper.
"Says the one who hasn't returned my bike," she teased as she read the instructions on the back of the box. He mimed locking his lips with a key and threw the key away, lifting his hands in surrender. The two of them looked at each other and laughed.
As Jade mixed the dye and smeared it on Dominic's hair, another figure appeared at her door.
"Is this a salon now? Can I get my hair done next?" her brother welcomed himself into the room.
The three musketeers were now gathered in Jade's room after a long day of school. As Conrad slept through most of his classes today, he asked the others about what he had missed. His sister re-explained the projects while Dominic remained silent throughout the whole conversation.
Only after Jade finished talking did Conrad finally realised his best friend was being unusually silent. He tilted his head at Dominic when they made eye contact as if asking what's wrong with him. Dominic mimed again, this time he shrugged and pointed to his lips. He lifted up his thumb and index finger up and kept rotating it. Conrad chuckled as he saw how Dominic was keeping up with his act.
Something must have happened before I entered the room.
Conrad thought he was making the heart with his thumb and index fingers, the ones they kept seeing Korean idols doing on the net, so he gave Dominic a heart back. Frustrated, Dominic formed an 'X' with his arms before attempting to gesticulate again.
"Ahh! Key! Jade locked your mouth?" An epiphany struck Conrad. His best friend violently nodded and celebrated by himself.
"You're moving too much!" Jade clenched her teeth and playfully pulled Dominic's jet black hair a little too roughly. Earning a glare from him as she replied with a cheeky smile. Conrad played along and gave Dominic an invisible key.
"Finally! I've been dying to talk!" he yelled. "How was lunch with the pretty lady?" he leaned in, ready to tease Conrad with anything that would come out of his mouth.
