We went back to the warehouse last night. Scarecrow didn't leave anything behind, other than a note scrawled onto the wall. It read as follows: "Did you like that taste of fear, little bird? I hope so, because more is coming your way. They want you dead. And they intend to watch you die screaming in mortal fear. "
Obviously, the "they" Scarecrow's note mentions is the Meringio family. It would seem as though blowing up their warehouse in South Gotham has made them even more irate. They want me dead.
It doesn't frighten me. Many have wanted me dead. It is simply a matter of my life.
Father doesn't want me patrolling on my own for a while. I can hardly blame him, but I still wish it wasn't so. I have defied his missives about solo patrol many times, but this time I will follow. Having been dead once already, he might never let me patrol again if I disobeyed. I also have no wish to frighten him further, since he is clearly afraid for my safety.
I think the note last night broke something in him. He's obsessively monitored everything in Gotham down on the Batcave computer.
He's hunting the Meringio family. With this whole debacle transpiring, Pennyworth and I have been left to the plans of the Wayne Family Summer Gala. It is on Friday, and much still has to be done. Tomorrow, we will begin removing the Gala furniture from the attic. Things such as tables, punch bowls, and chairs all have to be brought down three stories and into the Hall of the Sun. That is what the ballroom was named back when the Manor was built. It was justly named, since the room faces west. I am glad the elevator reaches into the attic, otherwise it might take forever.
The guests are still RSVPing. We have about 210 so far, not counting the people who will show up uninvited.Father almost took me off patrol entirely. The only reason he didn't was because I said, "Father, these people want me specifically dead. I have to fight for myself. You cannot leave me behind while you save me. I have to fight for myself, so that my enemies will know that I will punish the ones who want me dead."
He agreed to let me keep patrolling, but not on my own. A fair compromise.
That is all.
