The next morning, I got ready for college and was about to head out of the door and walk to the bus stop when I remembered my mum was taking me, the fact that I'd not realised this before made me a little angry, I could have had an extra half hour in bed. Anyway, I went and sat in the car for the remaining ten minutes of waiting for my mum, she was eating her breakfast in a hurry whilst running round the house making sure everything was switched off. A bit later, she joined me and we set off down the road to Ebony's house.
It was unusual travelling to college this way, we usually just went on the busy main road into town, but because Ebony lived in the suburbs on the far left of our area, we had to take a winding route, taking us through all the little villages, along the way I saw Oli Hunter run out of his house on Fairbank Lane and whizz past us on his skateboard down the streets, Rachel Dixon who lived a couple of doors down from Oli, applying her lip-gloss through her compact mirror as she made her way out of the gate and what looked like Hayley Todd in the next street, her head down and walking rather slowly.
"Will you just stop the car a minute mum?"
"Why?"
"I think that girl there is my friend, she's new, can we give her a ride?"
"Oh of course yeah" she smiled slowing down besides Hayley, who noticed us, but didn't make eye contact with us and picked up her pace, walking very quickly.
"What is she doing?" my mum asked, squinting her eyes.
"I don't know" I replied "Hayley! Hayley!" I shouted out of the window. She turned around and her eyes widened and she let out a little laugh.
"Oh sorry, I didn't know it was you, I thought someone was following me" she blushed.
"Haha, no worries, do you want a lift to college?"
"Um, it's OK I'll get the bus, I don't want to be rude"
"Nonsense" my mum butted in "You're very welcome to get a lift with us"
"Oh, thank you" she smiled sweetly, climbing into the back seat.
"That was a very sensible thing you did there, Hayley." My mum lectured "take notice of that Ava please, when you see a strange car pulling up besides you, walk faster, get out your phone, and make sure..."
"Yeah, yeah, yeah mum I know" I interrupted "we're just going to pick Ebony up" I said glancing at Hayley through the wind mirror.
"Ah cool" she smiled back.
"Look, Ebony's already in the garden waiting for us bless her" my mum said.
Ebony was sat on the bench under her front window adjusting her perfectly neat blonde hair, she jumped up with a little hop when she saw us and skipped along the path, her brow furrowed when she saw someone else sitting in the back of the car and she peered inquisitively through the tinted windows before getting in.
"Oh hey Hayley, I didn't know you'd be here"
"Me neither, Ava and her mum just gave me a ride on their way down here"
"Ah right" she smiled "Hey Ava, hey Katherine"
"Hey Ebs" my mum and I said simultaneously.
"How does the outfit look Ave?" Ebony said, referring to the sailor costume for Ryan's party.
"Oh awesome yeah, I love it"
"How amazing are we going to look?" she squealed "Oh Hayley, you should come to Ryan's party with us tonight, he won't mind us bringing you along"
"Uh, actually, I already am" she said quietly "Ryan invited me yesterday in business studies"
"Really?" Ebony practically screeched "Ooh Goldsmith wants you" she winked.
