There was a big buzz about college the next morning - a huge carnival was coming to town in order to celebrate the Mayor's 10 year reign. Of course, we were all happy for him, but it was the fairground rides, stalls, and activities that caught mine and everyone else's attention.

"So I'm thinking we should head down there for five o'clock" Oli announced as the bell rang to signal the end of the college day, "...the more time the better right?"

We all agreed, and I for one was really looking forward to it, and by the time I had got home from college, I was more or less popping straight back out of the door and heading for the carnival.

"Ava, aren't you going to eat something before you go?" My mum called worryingly.

"Mum, it's a carnival - there's going to be hundreds of food stalls there"

"Oh well, make sure you get something, don't want you vomiting all over the floor once you get on those horrible rides"

"Honestly, you're mad" I laughed, she'd always hated fairground rides ever since I was a little girl and fell off the merry go round at a funfair. "What's not to love? - anyway, I should be home at about half past 10"

"Oh do you want picking up tonight?"

"Uh no it's cool, I can make my own way home"

"OK have fun" - she'd really slackened on the whole 'keep Ava out of danger act' lately, seeing as though I was in no immediate 'danger' - that she was aware of anyway.

I walked out of the door and headed up my garden path, the weather wasn't looking too great, the sky was grey and there were a lot of clouds. It was definitely likely to rain. Nevertheless, I carried on and enjoyed my breezy walk to the town centre. It didn't take too long and I was happy to be alone with my thoughts for a while. I felt really bad about how I'd snapped at Ethan last night, the more I thought about it, the more I realised he was only trying to protect me, I'd acted like a total bitch. But still, I didn't want him to know that.

When I arrived, some of the gang were already waiting at the entrance.

"Hey Hayley, Ryan, Oli, Carl" I nodded.

"Hey Ava, you're early for a change" Carl joked.

"I know, looks like I'm not that useless eh?" I nudged him in the ribs.

"We're just waiting on the others" Oliver announced.

"No need to wait" Hayley butted in "They're here now"

I turned round to face the small group fast approaching us, led by Ebony - Ethan, Lucas and James followed. There was no time for small talk though, I had a feeling the big kid inside Oliver couldn't wait to get in and test out the rides.

"Who's for the Ferris Wheel first?" he asked cheerily.

"First?" Carl moaned, "Can't we do something a bit cooler 'first'?"

"Aw man, the Ferris Wheel's my favourite though" Oli pouted.

"Fine, fine" Carl surrendered "Let's take baby Ol to the Ferris Wheel"

We all laughed and headed over to the big wheel, I didn't want to admit it but sometimes heights made me a little queasy. In fact, it was probably a good job that I hadn't eaten otherwise the people in the cart below may have not been impressed.

We queued up for almost five minutes and finally made it through the barriers. Ryan and Hayley instantly paired up and took a seat as the wheel lifted again allowing the next pair - (strangely) Grace and James to take their seats too. Ebony deliberated on whether to sit with me or Lucas, but unfortunately she chose the latter. I scowled at her as I watched her vanish higher into the air allowing the next couple to grab a place. I went and took a seat and squirmed as I saw Ethan heading towards me. I should have seen this coming, I quickly lunged forward and grabbed Oliver's arm forcing him into the seat next to me before Ethan had the chance.
