Chapter 5: "defending" Nini

Chloe: *I jump onto your bed* Ricky! Wake up! Wake up!
Ricky: *slowly opens eyes* Really Chloe?
Choloe: Yes Really! Wake up! Jenn made pancakes!
Ricky: 5 more minutes
Chloe: No, now! While they're hot!
Ricky: Ugh fine
Chloe: Come on, get out of bed!
Ricky: I'm coming *I get up*
Chloe: I'm gonna beat you downstairs! *Runs downstairs*
Ricky: yes you will I'm too tired *laughs*
Chloe: You're a slow poke!
Ricky: I know I know *I walk downstairs* Red?
Big Red: Hey Ricky!
Ricky: what are you doing here *laughs*
Big Red: You thought I would miss a pancake breakfast at the Bowens?
Ricky: *laughs* Chloe will you grab me 2 chocolate chip pancakes
Chloe: I'm on it! *gets pancakes*
Ricky: *sits next to Red* sorry again about last night
Big Red: You're good *laughs* We all have our moments
Ricky: yeah. So who won Mario kart last night?
Chloe: Red did. He's a better gamer than I am *laughs*
Ricky: yeah he is pretty good *laughs*
Jenn: *walks in* Oh, Good Morning Ricky! How you doing?
Ricky: Good morning. I'm good just a weird night
Jennifer: You okay?
Ricky: yeah of course... I'll talk to to you later
Jennifer: Sounds Good, need anything to drink?
Ricky: just water
Chloe: apple juice please!
Jenn: Okay *Gets drinks* Here you go you two!
Ricky: thanks
Chloe: thank you Jenn!
Jenn: You're welcome. So, what'd you guys do yesterday?
Chloe: Red crushed us in Mario kart
Jenn: Oooh exciting! Anything else?
Chloe: Ricky went to a party!
Ricky: *I give Chloe a bit of an evil eye*
Jennifer: A Party you say?
Ricky: Ej was having a party. I didn't particularly want to go but I thought I'd pop in and say hi a minute
Jenn: Did you do anything... stupid
Ricky: I just popped in for 2 seconds then left. I just have a girl I knew a ride home
Chloe: But Ricky said that she didn't like him
Ricky: *I look back over at chloe and mouth "really?" She needed a ride home so I drove her that's all.
Chloe: What? You should just try to be a little bit more nicer to her then you already are. Maybe then she'll like you more
Jenn: Ricky I know your... different at school... but you were nice to this girl right?
Ricky: I just drove her home... I thought it was the nice thing to do
Big Red: You sure you were nice?
Chloe: what does she mean by different at school?
Ricky: oh my god guys I have like a million questions coming at me
Big Red: Chloe, do you wanna go play a game with me?
Chloe: Okay. But what does Jenn mean when she said Ricky's different at school
Big Red: Because he doesn't have me or you there, so he's just not as happy at school as he is at home
Chloe: he's not happy?
Ricky: I'm happy!
Jenn: He just likes home more. Now, go have fun with Red! I'm sure you guys will find a fun game
Chloe: okay
*Big red and Chloe step away*
Ricky: Okay maybe I wasn't the "nicest" to her per say but she's not very nice either
Jenn: Define "not the nicest" and who is this girl?
Ricky: look, you know why I act different at school. She's just another student.... well the only person who doesn't like me very much. But when she asked for a ride home I wasn't going to say no.
Jenn: And I'm happy you gave her a ride, but Ricky, at school you've got every girl after you so I don't know why someone wouldn't like you? Well I guess any person with common sense could recognize that you're kinda a jerk at school but, what girl are you talking about?
Ricky: Nini, the super smart one. Her best friend is the dance captain
Jenn: Nini! Like Nini Salazar-Roberts?!
Ricky: I think so?
Jenn: She's my student aid. She's such a nice girl, what'd you do to make her mad?
Ricky: I've always just been kind of rude to her I guess cause she's an easy target for- well Ej.... mmm. Well she ran into- we'll maybe it was me who ran into... I don't know. A few days ago she bumped into me and let's just say that's how I got that coffee stain on that shirt. I may have yelled at her for that but I don't think that's why doesn't doesn't like me. I really don't know what I do to piss her off so much.
Jenn: Do you think it had anything to do with the way you act? Cause you're kinda a big jerk in that school 24/7
Ricky: I know Jenn. But everyone else seems to like me that way. I don't care what Nini thinks.
Jenn: I never said you had to care, but I think I understand why both of you hate each other so much
Ricky: and whys that?
Jenn: Well, Nini works really hard to have the grades she does and does as much as she can to help, but just gets shoved to the side and made fun of for who she is. Then she sees you getting praised for being an ass and getting all the attention when all you do is mess around. She feels like nobody appreciates what she does and that her hard work is some big joke when all she wants is for it to be acknowledged in a good light not a bad one. But she hides it to make it seem like she doesn't care what people say about her... and that's why you hate her. You know what happened to you when you were yourself and it hurt so much to the point where you had to change who you are. That's why when you see her so unbothered by the hate, you get mad that it doesn't affect her like it did to yo.
Ricky: I am who I am because I didn't like being the "100 kid" like she is. I don't particularly like being the jerk you say I am either, but it works. I don't care what Nini does or thinks.
Jenn: Why do you have to be a jerk? Just be a human. You don't need to get straight A's but you also don't need to be getting yourself detentions and being disrespectful to teachers and other students
Ricky: thanks but I'm not changing the person I am at school. Even if I wanted to, it's too late anyways
Jenn: Ricky, it's never too late to change. Just think about it
Mike: *walks in* Hey bud! Good morning!
Ricky: Hey dad
Mike: What are y'all talking about?
Ricky: just school stuff
Mike: Ooh not fun *laughs* How you doing this morning honey?
Jenn: Wonderful. Ricky and I were having some great conversation
Mike: Oh yeah? Well I'm heading to the store, do you need anything.
Jenn: I can just come with you. Red's over anyways
Mike: well you ready to go?
Jenn: sounds good... let's go
Ricky: bye guys

Chole: *walks in* Where are they going?
Mike: we're heading to the store. Want anything?
Chole: Can you get some Chips? Me and Red ate all of them yesterday *laughs*
Mike: sure *laughs* we'll be back in an hour or two bye guys
Jenn: bye
Riky: bye dad... bye Jenn
Big Red: Chole! You weren't supposed to tell them we ate all of them! *laughs*
Chloe: *laughs* I'm sorry!
Big red: *laughs* bye Mr Bowen and Jennifer!
Chole: Ricky! Come play with us!
*Mike and Jenn leave*
Ricky: I'm coming!
Chole: How was your talk with Jenn?
Ricky: it was fine. What are we playing?
Chole: Go fish! I already one once and so did Red
Ricky: looks like it's my turn to win *I look at Red and laugh*
Big Red: Oh yeah definitely *laughs*

**Time skip* Mike and Jenn come back from the store then take Chole to dance leaving Red and Ricky at home alone.*

Ricky: I don't know man. Jenn was telling me it's probably because she makes being smart at school work and I couldn't. But that doesn't make sense to me because I didn't like being the smart guy at school. Yeah I'm a bit of a bitch to Nini, but she's a bitch right back
Big Red: You're telling me you didn't like the science units in school, learning about all the continents, reading books and doing book reports, always asking for extra math homework? Then you're lying to yourself
Ricky: I never asked for extra math homework!
Big Red: Ricky you know we don't lie to each other
Ricky: *rolls eyes* whatever. It's not like I don't do my homework any more. I still try and actually do it and find an answer... I just don't put that answer down. I'm still being that kid you say I liked being... I just only act that way at home. And what does that have to do with Nini?
Big Red: Ricky, you can lie to me and say that you're fine hiding it and that it's okay being different at school. But I agree with Jenn. Deep down you're jealous that Nini is who she is and doesn't hide it even though she's made fun of for it. You wish that could be you but you're just too
Ricky: I'm telling you I'm happy with how I choose to be.
Big Red: And I'm telling you that you're lying to yourself
Ricky: can we not talk about this anymore?
Big Red: If that's what you want then sure
Ricky: just one thing though... do you like Nini? I mean I know you've never met her and I don't mean like like her. But she does just yell at me and call me an ass all the time... why are are you defending her?
Big Red: Because I know how you are to people and I can kinda guess how Nini is after talking to you and I think you just don't understand her enough to be saying these things about her. So yeah, I'm "defending" her
Ricky: trust me, if you met this girl, you'd see how annoying she is
Big Red: I think you're overreacting and just don't know her well enough
Ricky: lets just keep watching kibble girl ((Note from author: that's what big red suggested they watch or whatever in ep 4 hahah))
Big Red: Whatever dude

I'm sorry this chapter was kind of short (so I'll post the next chapter today too)!
I think Jenn's right. Ricky's just mad Nini makes being who she is works and Nini's just mad Ricky gets away with being a jerk. Ricky just can't seem to accept that though.
I like how Big Red was just already downstairs eating haha. He's like another big brother for Chloe and it's so cute!
