"Well, things are coming along quite nicely. Good thing nothing stressful has happened so far! I got a cool job at a radio station, easy money. And I'm having a lot of help with the lessons at school, the guy I was telling you about is very kind and helpful, we've been hanging out a lot lately."
"Is he hot?" the female's voice was heard through the call.
I chuckled. God, I missed my best friend.
"Truth be told, he is very handsome, but you know that I'm not looking to date anyone, especially right now."
"Bitch, I know. You had a nasty heartbreak this summer and after that, you started smoking like a chimney. But you know what I say. Never do the same mistake twice. Unless he's hot," she giggled.
"What about the other thing I asked you before?" I started chewing on a hangnail; I couldn't help the anxiety gripping on me every time I would talk about my ex. "I kinda missed him. Should I text him to see what he's-"
"ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND?" she exclaimed. "WORST IDEA IN THE HISTORY OF WORST IDEAS EVER!"
I listened carefully to my best friend through the other line as she was explaining the whole situation to me, aka scolding my ass. How much I missed her presence, she was far away yet I could still feel her being so close to me. She'd been my unpaid therapist all along. We'd made a promise to each other that we would pay the bail if one of us ended up in jail, probably that would be me as I'd never been patient with people around me whatsoever.
"Is Shon coming to town this week?"
"Yeah, he called me yesterday, had some college stuff to take care of first."
"Sweat mother of donuts. He's so hot. He can get it."
"Hana!!"
"What?! You know I had a huge crush on him."
"Still weird."
I lit a cigarette and leaned against the wall behind me. It was one of those days where it was raining heavily and I'd chosen to resort to my secret place, under the roof of a small storage place with school stuff, right next to the school's parking lot where there was not a single soul around. It was lunch break and I just wanted some peace under the security of my friend's voice. I was playing with the cigarette between my fingers while gazing ahead at the rain falling hard on the cement. For some strange reason, the sight of the rain along with the chitchat I was having with my friend was something that calmed me down incredibly. Hana was the voice of reason I could rely on without fear. I'd call it bitching about anything, she'd call it verbal release therapy. A matter of perspective.
"Hana, I need to get back to class. I'll text you soon."
"Likewise, Junneko. I've fled from the gym class to talk to you. You know I hate all kinds of exercise, except for one specific activity. Ya know. Jumping the turnstile, playing bedroom rodeo, a little mattress dancing, praying with the knees upwards..-"
