Sweet God, what time is it? What's the year? How long have I been sleeping?

My eyes flew open as I heard my phone vibrating with a frenzy tune on the coffee table across from me. My hand reached out to snatch it and my half-lidded eyes immediately focused on my reflection on the screen instead of basically seeing who was calling me repeatedly. I grimaced. Crap. That wasn't a beauty sleep, that was a total disaster.

"My beautiful, smart and sassy step daughter," a very well-known delicate voice was heard from the other line.

"Uhm, Guren?"

"Ay, mi amor, you do remember my name, I see," she joked around with a bitter tone from the other end of the call. "I know I am inexcusable for going away for a whole week, but I promise, I'm bringing good news this time! And I will make it all up to you. I'm on my way now; I'm coming to Konoha", I heard her honk profusely at other cars over a few strong curses along the lines of "Uy, que care-chimbaand "chingate pendejo", something that she would usually do when stopped at traffic lights as if that could make the whole traffic congestion get out of her way magically. I just realized that she must've been close.

"Great," I said with a twitch of my lips as my eyes landed on my wrapped, wounded knee, but hadn't realized that the word came off a little hash.

'"My, you sound so excited!" she commented sarcastically. "I'll explain to you the moment I get back home, haven't you talked to Shon yet?"

"No, I mean, I don't remember him mentioning something about your return home today."

A sigh was heard over the continuing honking from the other end of the call, it was subtle yet it still reached my ears. "Junneko. I think it's time you worked on your relationship with your brother. I'm sure Shon has talked to you, even mentioned everything about why my stay back in Kiri took me longer than I'd expected, but you most likely paid no attention to his words," her sudden accusation triggered my mouth reflex to bite back despite the fact that what she said hadn't been entirely inaccurate. "Anyway, I'll be right there in 20'.Pick a recipe, I'll be cooking today. Hasta luego, cariño," then she ended the call and all the bustle I was hearing disappeared.

With a sigh of my own, I sat up on the couch and squinted my still blurry eyes to take a better look around the house. It was already early noon but the light sneaking behind the drapes was dim. My hands stretched above my head, and, surprisingly, I was feeling much better after a good sleep, no fever was creeping up, and the ache on my knee had wholly subdued. After a thorough disinfection, I could get rid of the bandages too.

I checked my phone again and was browsing through some social media apps and a few texts Shon had texted me until my index finger came to halt when I noticed a text from a certain someone-Obito. My eyes widened, then immediately took in the bottle of pills in front of me and my bed's duvet that was miraculously found on the couch that had been keeping me warm all night. Scanning the depths of my brain, all the events of the previous day occured to me, my clumsy ass falling in front of everyone at school, Obito walking me to the parking lot and then driving us home safe, the help he offered me which had seemed thoughtful and so out of his character that made me think that maybe this demon could actually harbor human feelings such as empathy.
