Girl Meets Shock

Mia’s heart shattered. “Take a few deep breaths and tell me what happened. We’re in this together.” She reassured him. Farkle took a few deep breaths but the tears never stopped flowing. “Do you want me to go over there?” Mia asked. She was already grabbing her shoes. “No you don’t have too.” Farkle shook his head. “What happened?” Mia asked. “My mom was caught having an affair. My parents are getting a divorce.” He informed her. “Ah that sucks baby. I’m sorry.” Mia replied. “It’s just shocking. I knew they were busy but I always thought they loved each other.” He admitted. “It just took me by surprise. I knew they had problems. Every marriage has them. Just this is just woah.” Farkle finished. Mia noticed the background in her phone. That wasn’t Farkle’s room. There was a knock at the door. “Someone’s at the door. Let me tell them to scram.” Mia rolled her eyes. It’s midnight. Who would be at the door? 

The call was disconnected as she saw Farkle at her door. His eyes were red and poofy. “You were gonna ask me to scram?” He asked. Mia smiled at him and shook her head no. They walked to each other and hugged. Farkle breathed in the vanilla scent she had. Mia was comforted by the unknown cologne that was faint on him. She had her arms wrapped around his waist and Farkle had his arms around her shoulders. Her face was resting on his chest and she felt his heartbeat steady. After they hugged she closed the door and they sat down on the couch. 

Mia put a pillow on her lap and Farkle laid his head on the pillow. She ran her fingers through his hair. “I know saying I’m sorry means nothing. It doesn’t change the fact that it happened. Or make it less of a surprise. Yet I am sorry because you don’t deserve the pain you’re feeling now.” Mia said softly. “Knowing what I feel now makes me sad for everyone who feels pain like this and makes me sad knowing there’s worse pain then this. I wish I could take all the pain away from everyone. No one deserves this.” Farkle honestly said. “I know. Me too.” Mia agreed. “I overheard my mom confess to my dad. She was preparing this for a while. All he had to do was sign the papers.” Farkle recalled what happened half an hour ago. 

Mia didn’t say anything. She didn’t know how to. “She then left. Without even saying bye to me. I got left.” Farkle started to tear up again. “Then that’s on her. She has an amazing son who loves her. She was the one who lost everything. I’m sure if she ever regains her brain cells she’ll find a way back to you. At least giving you an explanation and an apology.” Mia tried calming her boyfriend down. “It’s her loss.” Farkle looked at Mia. She nodded yes. Mia played with Farkle’s hair till he fell asleep. Then right before she fell asleep Alexander walked out. “Who’s this?” He asked. “This is my boyfriend. His name is Farkle.” She whispered. “That’s a cool name.” Alex replied. “Why are you awake Alex?” Mia asked. “Couldn’t sleep.” He whispered back. “Come here.” She patted on her other side where Farkle wasn’t lying. 

Alexander struggled to get on the couch but he made it with a little help. He snuggled into Mia’s side. Mia rubbed her thumb gently from one end of Alexander’s eyebrow to the other end. This made him sleepy and he closed his eyes. Mia then fell asleep not long after. The next morning Mia was laying on her side on the couch. She woke up groggily. 

 A pillow under her head and a blanket on her body. There was the smell of bacon cooking and Eric was making eggs. Farkle was playing on the floor with Alexander quietly. She smiled at the two and sat up. “Look Mia!” Alex rushed to Mia. Showing her the broken car that Farkle fixed for him. “Nice.” Mia told him. Alexander hopped on her lap and leaned to her ear. He whispered really loud. “I like him. Can we keep him?” Alex asked. “I like him too. I think he can stay a while.” Mia smiled fake whispering. He gave a small giggle and ran back to Farkle. 

Farkle gave her a smile which she returned. “Breakfast is ready everybody!” Eric screamed. Farkle picked up Alex and made an airplane sound. Alex giggled and had his arms out. “I’m flying!” He cheered. Farkle set down Alex in his booster seat chair and grabbed a chair for Mia. He sat down next to Mia and kissed her cheek. “Good morning.” He told her. “Good morning Farkle.” She replied with a wide smile. “The ringing is back!” Eric yelled, swatting his ear. Alex started laughing at Eric. Mia and Farkle cracked a grin at the scene unfolding. “I’m going out to get boxes and our keys for the apartment. Will you two stay and watch champ?” Eric asked, referring to Alexander. The couple looked at each other and nodded yes.
