Christmas break was over. Mia and Maya were late to health class by a second. The girls entered class laughing with frozen yogurt from the student store in their hands. “You girls are late.” The teacher looked at them. “Sorry Mr..” Mia looked at the board. “Mr. Dingle.” Mia and Maya started holding back laughter. Everyone in the class looked at them like this was the best thing that happened all day. Except Riley she longed to be standing up there with them. If she was there she could prevent them being late. “Yeah the frozen yogurt line was long.” Maya exaggerated the word long. Making the whole class besides Riley laugh again. “Yeah I’m not taking this again. I quit.” Mr. Dingle grabbed his coat and briefcase then left. “Good riddance. I was scared Mr. Dingle was gonna be a hard teacher this semester.” Mia sat in her seat. Maya sat next to her. Everyone was laughing at them. Yogi was rolling on the floor in laughter. Mr. Matthews stormed into the room angry. “You did this!” He pointed his fingers at Mia and Maya. “I’m getting Deja Vu.” Mia put a hand on her head. Everyone gave a quick laugh.
“This was my only free period besides lunch and now it’s gone!” Mr. Matthews yelled, turning to face the board. Mr. Dingle was written. He started laughing and took out his phone. “I gotta show Shawn.” He laughed. The class started laughing again. Mr. Matthews erased the board and wrote his name. “The school's new textbooks are ordered for health. They’ll be here Wednesday. The door opened and a boy entered with a slip. “My name is Joseph Alvarez. Is this health class? Room 201?” Joseph asked. He was pretty sure his tour guide would’ve punked him to the wrong classes.

“Welcome to our school Joseph. You’re in the right class. My name is Mr. Matthews. Take a seat next to my niece. Mia raise your hand please?” Mr. Matthews instructed. Mia gave Joseph a wave and pointed to the empty seat next to her. He gave a grin and sat down. “My name’s Maya. Do you know anyone here? Or are you the new new kid?” Maya asked him.
Joseph gave her a smile and chuckled. “I don’t know anyone.” He answered her. “You’re welcome to hangout with us and our friends. Lunch is after this we’ll be happy to show you around and answer any questions.” Mia offered. “I’ll take you ladies up on that offer.” Joseph accepted. “More friends? My forest capacity is full.” Maya complained. “Suck it up buttercup. We’re nice people.” Mia smirked at her. “Ok ok so the lesson on wednesday will be” Mr. Matthews got a call on the school phone. He just looked at it. “Why is he staring at the phone like that?” Joseph asked. “My name is Farkle and that answer is simple. Our class trip got cancelled this year and the school can change their minds. If they do he is the very first chaperone.” Farkle answered. “Why is it so bad if the trip is back on?” Joseph asked. “Bad memories from when he was a teenager. Bad memories last year.” Mia answered.
