Thomas' POV

"Tom!" Teresa almost-screams at me once she sees me in the hallway. "Tom Tom Tom Tom Tom Tom Tom Tom Tom!"

"Is it possible to get bored of your own name?" I ask her as I walk up to her, wondering what the hell she's so excited about.

"I think Brenda might like me!" She squeals loudly, making a few people turn their heads to look over at us.

"Can you be any louder?" I chuckle, absolutely loving the mega-happy Teresa.

"Oh, Tom, you wouldn't believe how sweet she is!" She starts rambling, grinning widely at me. "So, she found a lovely patch of flowers..." She carries on, not even bothering to check if I'm listening or not.

As we walk down a few corridors, just chatting before we collect our books from our lockers for our first lesson, she tells me all about what happened with Brenda while I just smile happily at her, enjoying hearing her freak out over the other girl.

"And then I went home feeling all lovey-dovey." She finally finishes, letting out a dreamy sigh at the end.

"It sounds like you and Brenda are gonna be more than friends really soon." I tell her, wiggling my eyebrows.

She rolls her eyes at me but can't wipe the joyful smile off her face. "What about you and Newt?" She then randomly asks, looking at me expectantly.

"What about Newt and I?" I question her, immediately becoming confused.

"You two seem to be getting really close." She nudges me with her elbow, a slight smirk already playing on her lips.

"Wh- What do you mean?" I ask, surprised that she could think that something is going on between Newt and I, when clearly, we're only just becoming friends.

"I saw you two messing around and making each other giggle yesterday in Science." She explains to me. "Neither of you could stop smiling, and then I saw you both walk home together."

"We're slowly becoming friends, that's all Tess." I say, my mind now replaying moments from yesterday with him - like how cute he looked when he was concentrating with his tongue poking out or when I painted a stripe of pink across his nose and cheeks. "I don't think Newt is as bad as he seems."

But before Teresa can reply, I then - ironically - see the blonde boy himself close his locker and then walk in our direction. Teresa raises her eyebrows at me while I just roll my eyes at her and then turn my attention to the cute blonde who is slowly getting closer, mentally urging him to walk faster.

"Hey Newt," I smile at him as he walks towards us, just seeing him making my whole body tingle with happiness, glad to see him again.

Expecting him to stop and say hello, I am surprised and upset when he instead barges straight past us, his head hanging low and not even acknowledging me.

"Not as bad as he seems, huh?" Teresa comments as I look behind me and watch Newt walk off, my bright smile now faded into a frown.

"I..." I try to find the right words, a lump beginning to form in my throat, my chest starting to ache with the sadness that's flooding in. "I don't understand..."

"He's a villain, Tom." She says softly, stroking my arm. "What did you expect?"

I shake my head sadly, still wanting to believe that Newt could be different. With tears threatening to spill, Teresa pulls me towards our lockers, trying to convince me that Newt isn't to be trusted and that I'll be fine soon enough and forget all about him.

"Tom? Tom! Are you even listening to me?" Teresa says, waving a hand in front of my face, trying to get me to pay attention to her. "If you're still thinking about Newt..."
