I woke up, on the ground, my ears ringing, with fire all around. I laid there with my face on the ground waiting for the world to stop spinning. I looked up and saw flames, the reflection glistening of the shattered glass that scraped my palms as I clinched the ground for stability. A second explosion rang through the street. I closed my eyes. "Skyler! Skyler!" I heard my name, but not from where, the voice rang with pain. I tried to yell, tried to tell the voice I heard it scream that its not alone in its agony, but nothing came out. I couldn't breathe, it was too much smoke, the flames were getting larger. I blinked. A dark figure appeared in front of me, shielding my body from the heat. I smiled, closed my eyes, and loss consciousness.

I woke up in a hospital bed, a nurse checking my vitals, making sure I did not die. "Welcome back to reality, Ms. Lincoln. I will let the doctor know you've woken up," the nurse said turning to walk out of the room.

I have no idea how I got here. All I remember was screaming, fire, a large dark figure, and then darkness. And then I remembered the screams, TORI! "Oh God, please let her be okay," I thought aloud to myself. If she is hurt, I will never forgive myself, let alone her parents never forgiving me. I would be truly alone in this world.

"Your friend is fine, she was farther away from the blast than you were," the doctor assured entering the room. He clearly heard me. "Her parents are with her. Which reminds me, we couldn't get hold of your mother, is there anyone else we can call?"

"No, I'm an emancipated minor."

"I see. Well then I will be back in a few minutes to do some tests. Got to make sure you don't have a concussion. Until then, rest up." The doctor turned and left the room.

As soon as he left the room, the lights ran out. I sat up in my bed, waiting for whoever was in my room. I was on alert. I dark figure stepped out of the shadow, the Dark Knight. "What were you doing in Crime Alley?" He asked with no emotion.

"How long were you in my room just now?" I asked as if I did hear the question. I laid back into my bed. I acted completely chill that the Batman was ten feet from me, but inside I already fainted.

"What were you doing in Crime Alley?" He repeated with no emotion. He just stood there, staring at me, trying to intimidate me, and it was working.

"Me and my friend were out for a run," I lied.

"No, you weren't, you're lying," he said fumbling with his cowl. "Your name is Skyler Lincoln. You're seventeen years old. You live in an apartment in East End. You live alone? You're mother and father are both MIA. Your friend's name is Victoria Banderas, she is also seventeen years old. You both go to the same school. She has a good family, parents really care about her. You and her have been seen around a few times. GCPD, active crime scenes, the two of you can't seem to get in enough trouble."

"Did you leave that note for me?"

"What note?" he was clearly frustrated with me at this point.

"I was hiding in a room, and I heard a voice saying that I could come out, there was a note on the ground warning me not to get involved."

"No, I did not leave it," he walked closer to my bed, "But, you probably should have listened to it. So, I'm going to ask you one last time, what were you doing in Crime Alley?"

"I-" Just then the lights came back on and the doctor returned to my room. I looked at the doctor and then back at the area where the Batman was standing, he was gone. I turned back to the doctor.

"We finished up with your friend. her parents took her home," he said flipping through a clipboard of papers, "Now lets get you all checked out."
