Distractions

I need a distraction. I lied to my mother. Now she is gone. I do not know when she will be back. I feel bad. I'm a liar.

I don't have a death wish. I don't want to die. I want to live. I want a life greater than what it is. I want something more. I need a distraction.

        I need Tori.

I call her up. No answer. I call her again. Still no answer. I am upset, I need someone to talk to.

I look over at the walkie talkie that now sits on the kitchen counter. I contemplate picking it up. Calling the Batman. Lying. Anything to get him here. I want that distraction.

No, I tell myself. That is for emergencies. What if I create one? No!

I pick up my phone and call Tori. I wish I could tell her about my mother. I need to tell her about last night. I need her to answer. I need the distraction.

        She does.

"Hello, Skyler," she says. She doesn't sound excited to talk to me. I expected that she would if she read my text. I didn't text her about Robin. I would tell her about that now.

"Hi, how are you?" I asked sounding cordial. I wanted to get to the reason I called. I needed to get my mother out my mind.

"I'm good," she answered. "I got your text. That's amazing!"

I told her about what happened the next night. I told her about the jump. I told her about the walkie talkie. I told her that next time she needs to be there at my side.

"Listen about that," she started. She sounded like she was dreading what was about to come out her mouth. "My parents decided to move out of Gotham City. They said that it isn't safe here. That I picked up bad influences." That last bit stung. "They told me not to answer your calls. We are moving out to the country side." I stayed on the phone silent. Tears were coming out of my eyes. "I wanted to tell you. I love you, you're my best friend. I will miss you!"

"I love you too Tori," I sobbed into the phone.

"I have to go," she said, "I will miss you." She hung up before I could say goodbye. I put the phone down. I am definitely distracted.

I looked over at the walkie talkie.
