Hawk had only been gone a couple minutes but when Rose and the rest got to him the thick waxy green root like tentacles stretched all over his body secreting a honey like substance in behind them.
"Fury magic"
With a wave of his wand Travis sent out a whirlwind of air at the plants severing some of the tentacle things but they started growing back, soon they all started firing magic at the plants though to hardly any affect their regeneration was just to quick.

"It's no use you guys our magic isn't strong enough"

They agreed Astoria was right but Rose kept going creating all sorts of things to destroy them but no luck. A firm hand gripped her  shoulder pulling her back with a bit of force.
"Come on Rose it's no good we can't get to him"
"Nooooo I'm not going" she fell to her knees sobbing as her friends gathered around her trying to console her.

Draegan quickly rushed in front of them and drew out his weapon slicing two of the plant tentacles in half before sheathing his weapon again his hand still tightly gripped on the hilt ready to draw again, I don't know if this will work or not but it's worth a try.
He loosened his grip and relaxed taking a deep breath he slowly exhaled closing his eyes, he focused on clearing his mind as he did the leaves on rustling in the wind slowed the tentacles even got slowly at break neck speeds new drew his sword and ran towards Hawk slicing the plants tentacles before grabbing Hawk and retreating back to the others, gently placing Hawk on the forest ground Draegan spun around stabbed his sword into the ground while getting on one knee, there was low grumbling noise as the ground around the sword began to crack and split open.
"Stand back you lot" his tone was commanding and cautious, as a bright almost luminous green fire erupted from the ground though as quickly as they appeared they disappeared.

The group was speechless Joy even turned into a frog before being kissed by Travis to turn her back only Rose was the one who didn't see the flames and she  was cradling Hawk as where the fire came from stood a horse as black as night but with the same green fiery mane, tail and glowing eyes.

The horse slowly approached Draegan leaving behind small flame foot prints, stopping in front of Draegan it lowered it's head like it was bowing Draegan gave the horse a slight nod then walked over to the sobbing Rose and Hawk.
"Come on Rose it's time to go" he gently tapped Rose's shoulder but he got no response.
"I'm sorry for this"
Smack the sound of his palm hitting her face silenced the whole group even the animals seemed to go quiet.
"What the hell Draegan"
"Yeah what are thinking?"
"You didn't have to hit her"
Astoria,Joy and Travis was stunned and began to yell at Draegan who calmly raised his hand in the air immediately they shut up.
"It was necessary"
"What do you mean necessary!?"
Their anger clearly showing as their friend sat there her hand pressed against her cheek in disbelief before standing up.
"The..thank you Draegan"
"Why are you thanking him, he should be apologising to you Rose"
"Yeah Astoria is right"
"Are you okay Rose?"

"I'm okay Joy thanks for asking and he brought me backed to reality plus it doesn't hurt"

They all hugged as Draegan picked up Hawk and laid him across the horse before getting on in one swift motion.

"Do you guys need horses?"
"No we're fine but thanks for the offer" Rose waved her wand "pumpkin magic" out of her wand flew orange and yellow sparks then in a cloud of smoke a Humvee appeared without asking questions Travis,Joy and Astoria got in the passenger seats and Rose behind the wheel and off they went following Draegan.

A couple of hours passed before they came upon an empty camp site.

Draegan brought the horse to a stop as Rose stopped besides him turning off the engine the passengers quickly jumped out the Humvee and kissed the ground.
"Come on guys it wasn't that bad"

The three of them turned to look at Rose before suddenly bursting out in laughter as they remembered the drag racer Rose created though their mood quickly dropped as the watched Draegan lay down Hawks limp body near the fire pit.

"Listen up you guys I want Travis to go find us some wood we can use for the fire as well other materials that might come in handy, Joy I need you to use your frog capabilities to survey the surrounding area, Astoria do you have any defense magic?"
"I can create stuff out of  ivory" she was full of confidence.
"Okay I want you to put an ivory cage over the camp site to keep Rose and Hawk safe then you're coming with me to look for food"

Astoria took out the small ball that changed into a wand quickly clearing her throat and with a clear voice shouted out "Tower magic" once said ivory vines started shooting out of the ground and wrapped around each other creating a cage like structure over the camp.
"Nice work Astoria"
"Yeah good work"
"Alright you all have your tasks now let's go"
With Draegan giving the command they all went out about their tasks while Rose stayed behind with Hawk.

She knelt down beside him holding his hand in both of hers as tears streamed down her cheeks.
"Hawk....Hawk....Hawk...wake up Hawk come on you can't do this to us, to me you're my Knight in shining armour remember you're supposed to protect me please Hawk we have so much more to do I want to grow old with you and have a family with a couple of pets and one day we'd all get together lay under the starry night sky and watch as the sun slowly rose and we would laugh and joke around, you mean everything to me Hawk I love you"
Gently leaning in she planted a soft kiss on lips and wept silently at his side.
