The early mist had wrapped itself around the trees and hid the wet and soft ground. Birds sung a beautiful melody trying to wake the earth. The breeze gently rustled the leaves and softly shook the bushes like a child waking a mother
But these children weren't waking their mother, oh no. They were clambering up a tree trying to reach the tree house that sat inbetween the holllow branches.
Once in there tree house the two grinned at each other, sat down and tried to regain their breath.
Their father had just left too go on a business trip with their eldest brother, Noah.
"That was fun" Cath grinned finally breathing normally
Abi laughed and pushed her sister before sitting on the blanket and pillows that had been placed there earlier.
Sighing happily that girl sat on the blanket leaning on the wall looking out of the window frame that was in the opposite wall. The view was beautiful watching that the cold, damn mist was slowly lifted, unravelling its self from the earth's crust. Revealing the tall, dark, green forest which was covered in water droplets and soaked, sparkling spider webs.
"Yeah it was" Cass sighed loving the peace
"Can we get a kitten?" Cath asked looking up at her sister
"You want a kitten?"
"Yup!"
"Well we would have to ask mum and dad about it"
Cath huffed dramatically "but they say no to everything we want"
Cass laughed "okay well say if we could get a kitten, what would you call it?"
"Well it would be a he-" she started "-and his name would be...." she paused for a second
"Percy Arthur Mason!" She grinned
"Percy Arthur Mason?"
"Yup!"
"Okay" Cass laughed "nice name"
"What about a puppy? Can we get a puppy?" Cath asked
"A puppy?"
"Yeah!" Cass chuckled
"We don't really have the money to buy a puppy Cathy"
"Awww" Cath pouted
"Sorry Cath"
"Its okay" she sighed sadly
Cass, feeling guilty, then asked"What kind of puppy would you want if we could get one?"
Cathy thought for a moment, her face scrunched up cutely
"A Labrador!" She giggled
"Oh yeah Labs are lovely"
"CASS!" screamed the familiar voice of their mother
"YEAH?" Cass screamed back, silence followed "YEAH? MUM??!"
"MOTHER!" silence
"Oh for fucks sake" Cass mutter under her breath before getting up. Catherine laughed at her sisters pain causing Cass to stick her tongue at Catherine, Catherine playfully gasped and threw a pillow at Cass who just missed it and got hit in the face
"Oh I'm so going to get you-"
"-CASSY" Cass huffed, she did not like that nick name
"-after I deal with whatever our mother wants"
Catherine grinned at her "pillow war?"
"Oooo dont start something you cant finish small human"
"FOR GODS SAKE CASS HURRY!!"
"IM COMING, MERLIN, JUST HANG ON"
"DONT GIVE ME THAT TONE CASSIOPEIA" Cass winced at the use of her full name
"RIGHT SORRY-" she shouted back before looking back at the 9 year old "-you gonna be okay alone?"
"Yup, goddd" she whinned "I'm not 5"
"Right right" Cass grinned her hands up in defence before climbing down the tree a carefree bright smile on her face, little did she know that it would be her last for a long long time....
As Cass heading back Catherine looked around bored, looking for something to do while her sister was busy. Looking around she realised that they need more thing in there tree house, it looked very plain and boring.
Huffing the 9 year old got up and looked out of the window looking around for anything to entertain her, as she looked into the deeper side of the forest her eyes widen and she squealed. She saw a dog not just any dog, a Labrador.
As quick as lightning she rushed down the ladder that was barely every used, as the girls loved just climbing the tree. And she speed walked towards the dog before something made her freeze, she looked down and saw a small trench in the ground, probably the width of a small tin but the depth of 3 meters.
"You see this" smiled their father as he pointed towards the small trench that surrounded their house. Cathy nodded along with Cass
"Me and your brothers made this, okay? This shows you were you are not allowed to cross"
"We cant we cross dad?" Asked a 10 year old Cass
"We can't cross because it's very dangerous in that forest without an adult. It's a very dangerous world out there without an adult"
"So what is a hole in the ground supposed to do about it?" Sassed Cass
"You know how daddy is a wizard?" Both girls nodded "well I put a spell on it so only we can go in or out of it"
"But what if we want friends over"
"Then they have to be touching you" Cass nodded seemingly pleased with the answer
"So never cross without me or a adult, understood girls?"
"Understood" they grinned
Catherine looked at the Dog then back to the trench, she bit her lip. Should she go?
Catherine wanted to go but then remembered what her dad said, its dangerous out there.
So Cath sighed and turned around defeated, however a sudden thought struck her 9 year old mind. But what about the puppy?! Dad said it was dangerous so the puppy might get hurt!
She squeezed her eyes shut and crossed the line, for a few seconds she just stood frozen waiting for terrible pain. But nothing happened so she hesitantly opened her eyes and looked around, the dog was just sitting there panting like it was luring her in
She giggled and ran to the dog and started to pet it "imma call you Ziggy"
Suddenly to hands wrapped around her and held her mouth and nose trying to stop her breath for a long enough time so that she faints.
Catherine screamed, kicked, wriggled, bit, scratched, squirmed but nothing worked and she felt her vision start to blacken as she faded in and out of consciousness. Getting weaker and weaker her 9 year old strength was running out.
The last thing she saw was a Labrador looking at her dead in the eyes, its tail wagging and twisted glint in its eyes and a wolsfish grin on its face.
And suddenly Cath didnt think that Labradors were her favourite dogs anymore.....
