I couldn't have been described as totally composed. With the clock relentlessly ticking and my contract running out, I felt a displeasing feeling of helplessness. I seized every opportunity to make myself useful, volunteering the hard tasks or trading them with others so I had to stay overtime. Each minute at the clinic was a golden excuse to stay closer to Law.
It never crossed my mind, nor dd I ever expect to become a part of the overly frequent stereotype – a love-stricken girl by night and a massive stalker by day.
Cross that.
It wasn't so bad, but it was true that I consciously tried to gain his attention on regular basis, whether it was a good or a bad one. And when I did, I felt an incredible burst of confidence and pleasure in my chest. It did occur to me, after some thinking before bed, that he was actually my first, real crush and the fluttering feelings were completely new to me. Which meant that his honest confession about the pageant competitions gave me the true inside of his opinion and reassurance that he won't run off with an unknown girl into the sunset.
The only factor that did concern me was a certain, impressive yet by looks an unbeatable opponent. A greenhead named Monet. I had had the incredible misfortune of meeting her a week ago, in the most unexpected area - the bathroom. While she presented herself in an up-straight, fashionable, and smart way, her personality was farfetched. It mostly shone from the conversations she was engaged in, mostly with the group of other contestants. If I read between the lines I could unmistakably uncover a snake. She had this poisonous, sinister aura around her that made me shudder.
That's probably because I'm jealous.
At some point Ikkau noticed how I glared behind the shelves and peeked when Monet talked with Law. I suspected she would scold me for eavesdropping, but to my immense luck, she joined in, grunting, and rolling her eyes when the greenette purred with her fake-ass sweet voice.
"Oh, she is good." She cooed when we were on a break. Everyone could sense that the atmosphere had laid down. Only small formalities had to be done and beside that, everything was in stage of already arranged. Ikkau looked at me, interest clearly shining from her bewildered eyes. "What are you going to do?"
"Queens don't compete with hoes. That's rule number one." I smashed my fists in a tight grip, narrowing my eyes at the tightfitting dress on the girl. "How I want to slap her, but I don't know in which face. Just look at her! My phone battery lasts longer than her bob fillers, and that says a lot considering that my shitty device is over five years old."
When I again shifted my look over at Monet, the fricking hoe that was openly flirting, using all the twirling, and bashing out her eyelashes, I got a jab in the ribs from Ikkaku. "Envy ain't pretty," she said and continued stocking the empty shelves with reports. I got on with my work, but I couldn't help noticing from the corner of my eyes the sudden stroke on Law's arms. I wish I felt able to put my hands freely on the raven just to let her know he's (somewhat) taken.
