Fun Facts

#1 - Bailey's original name was Sarah Bailey. But, when I started writing and used Bailey as a nickname in Chapter 1 of Distant Illusion, I instantly fell in love.

#2 - Drew never existed until about Chapter 3 of Distant Illusion during my drafting. I decided Bailey needed a someone she could lean on besides Tony and Drew was formed.

#3 - Drew and Bailey's middle names were kind of a last minute thing. The idea of having a piece of each other if they were ever apart just came to me one day and it was cheesy but it just fit.

#4 - I had originally drafted Bailey not as a rape survivor. When I wrote the chapter where Jess finds out the truth about her own rape, I felt like she needed someone desperately so she wasn't alone and suddenly I was writing it. I had second guessed myself, especially when I wrote about Kat's party in Distant Mirage. But, it is a conversation that needed to be had.

#5 - My original message I wanted to convey was how it is not ok to joke about killing yourself. All too often people around me would say it meaninglessly, and I admit, I've said it too a few times. But, then someone I knew ended their life and it put it all into perspective. People are joking about someone else's feelings, they might not realise it, but they were. Somewhere someone is thinking about ending their life, actually considering it, and we might not even realise it. But, here some people are mocking them. It's why people stay quiet, because of this shit, this idea that mental health and illness is a joke. It is a real thing, I've been there, I've survived, I still push through each day and I know many others are the same. We know first hand what it's like. So, please, don't joke about it. Check on your friends or someone you're worried about, you might just save their life.
