The week went by faster than I would have thought and right now I'm standing outside of Lauren's door as I silently prepare myself for this dinner with her family. Taking a deep breath I knocked twice on the door.
"Dinah I'm so glad you're here." Lauren said when she opened the door.
I smiled as I handed her the rose I got her. "I'm glad you invited me Lo." I said as I walked inside. Smiling at me she kissed my cheeks as she locked our fingers together and walked us to the living room where her parents and siblings were.
Looking over at me Lauren smiles. "Mom. Dad. This is my girlfriend Dinah." She introduced. I smiled shyly as I waved at them. "Hello." I spoke softly. Looking at me both Mike and Clara scuff as they shake their heads. "Honestly Lauren you could do better." Mike says. "Yeah I bet she doesn't do anything for you. She's really only with you because you come from money." Clara adds.
Lauren's face fell as she she looks at her parents. "Actually since I've been back Dinah has been the only one whose actually been there for me. She's someone I know I can go to when I need to talk." She says. "And for your information she's not with me for money, she doesn't care about that. She's with me because she actually likes me."
Mike shook his head as he stands up. "Look I know you think this girl likes you but she's only with you to get things from you. You're a Jauregui and you have connections that she probably wants. She doesn't love you Lauren." He said. I looked at him as I locked our fingers together. "I'm not with Lauren for the connections her names brings. I'm with her because I like her. I think she's funny, smart, beautiful and just overall an amazing person." I said. "I really do love your daughter."
Sitting at the dining table Lauren held my hand as the food was being served. I could tell she was still upset about what her parents said so I kissed the back of her hand to let her know that everything would be ok.
"I just don't get what you see in Lauren. She's a fucking basket case." Chris says. "I'm way better than her. You should date me."
Rolling my eyes I looked at him and smiled. "It would never work out between us." I told him. "You have nothing I like." Christ huffs "what do you like?" He asked with a flirty smirk. I smiled "girls." I said easily. His cheeks turned red when he realized that I'm a lesbian and that we would never work out. Ever. Plus his sister is way cuter.
"Lauren when are you going to bring home a guy for us to meet?" Clara asked.
Lauren sighs "if I found one I liked I would but then I met Dinah and she's incredible." She said as she smiled at me. I smiled back at her. "You're amazing babe."

Dinner dragged on with her family making some pretty hurtful remarks towards Lauren and our relationship. They kept saying that we would never last because of how emotionally damaged Lauren was, but that's not true. I understand Lauren and I get her enough to know that if something really bothered her she would come and talk to me. That's just how our relationship is. She can trust me with her feelings and thoughts about anything and I know that I can do the same with her.
"I'm so sorry tonight was so awful. I really thought they would be nice for once, but like always I was wrong." She mumbles.
Wrapping my arms around her I kissed the top of her head. "I know tonight wasn't great but I'm happy to be here with you Lo." I told her. "You really made tonight special." Looking up at me her eyes lit up as she kissed me. "Thank you Dinah." She whispers against my lips. I nodded "don't mention it."
