Story commencement
=====================================
Batch 1:
(3 days before the Purge:)
The announcement of the incoming commencement of the Purge is heard across the room from a table of friends who're playing cards.
"Hey, focus." N8 nudges Galax, who's staring at the screen. "Its your turn."
"The government's actually going along with NFFA's plan?" Galax shoots her a look. "I thought the petition against the experiment was winning."
"There's nothing last minute bribery and powerful connections can't really do now is there?" Another girl, Keiv shuffles the deck nonchalantly.
"Humanity tried." "I'm not too worried." A boy, Prophet chimes up. "Its bound to fail. Who's willing to actually participate in the experiment? It's a complete death wish."
"Aren't you going to entertain the thought if it actually pulls through? What if the asylum opens on Purge Night? Do they release prisoners?" Galax asks, visibly concerned.
"Prisoners? If they do escape, all they'll be doing is be sitting ducks that night. No guns, no relatives, nothing. You're overthinking things." Prophet counters.
"It's a messed up nation, anything's possible." Galax retorts.
"Guys, its going to happen regardless. We should be prepared." A braided hair girl, Tweek, finally speaks up over them. They fall quiet, exchanging looks.
"I have a couple of rounds and a shotgun from my granddad's old shed." Keiv finally breaks the silence. "It's a few blocks down from here."
"What's the plan for the night?" N8 asks.
"I don't know about you guys, but I'm going to be holed up in my room, eating snacks." Galax shrugs. "There's no way I'm going out."
"Everybody needs to be vigil on that night. We're going to be staying awake." Tweek decides instead. "But yes, we're definitely sticking indoors." Noticing how everyone looks dejected by the decision, she adds: "Its only for one night, c'mon. We can't afford to take any chances."
"Alright." N8 sighs, getting her notepad. "Then we better get ready from here onwards. Who's up for a supply run with me?" Galax nods in response.
"That leaves you with me." Tweek looks at Prophet. "What do we do?"
"Barricade the house?" Prophet shrugs. "we just need a couple of planks, nails. The rest of the gear is in the basement already."
"You're planning on leaving nail marks all over the doors??" Galax glares at him.
"No, of course not, you're insane." Prophet scoffs. "I'm leaving nail marks on the windows too. Don't forget the windows."
"We better get going." N8 quickly gets up and drags Galax by the arm outside before she can respond. Keiv tucks her hands into her hoodie. "I guess you'll be taking the car, then?"
Tweek smiles apologetically.
"We can't exactly lug pounds of wood back here by ourselves." Prophet comments.
"I can't exactly lug back a huge shotgun and rounds around the neighbourhood either, but I'll manage." Keiv digs out the keys from her pocket and tosses them to Tweek.
"I'll be back in an hour, tops."
"Alright. Meet you all here."
