A/N
Yea I havent written in a while. I just got my inspiration back! And these chapters will be taking longer because school. But I promise they won't take longer than 2 weeks. I know that sounds long but so is this A/N so let's start.
They slowly turned around in their chair.
"Nurse Kate!" I whisper yelled.
"Yes." She said.
"How the heck do you know my mom!?" I yelled.
"Let's just say, we're old friends, but that's not what we're here to discuss." She said.
"Then why don't you get to the point " I spat.
"I could tell you where she is, or I can tell you why she's there, but you can't have both." She said.
"Why not?" I asked.
"Because." She spat.
"Great explanation!" I said sarcastically.
"You shouldn't be questioning me, I don't see a line if people willing to tell you something about your mom." She said.
"Tell me where she is." I said.
"New York City." She said.
"I thought you said she wasn't there." I said.
"No, that's what her office said, because she's not there for business." She whispered
"How am I supposed to get there?" I asked.
"I wouldn't leave here so fast." She warned.
"Why?" I questioned.
"There are things yet to be discovered, and you're not fully recovered." She said.
"Did you purposely rhyme?" I asked.
"No, but it sounded pretty cool, didn't it?" She laughed.
I rolled my eyes and asked, "What things are yet to be discovered?"
Before she could answer the door flew open and Dr.Smith walked in.
"What is going on in here!?" Dr.Smith yelled, britishly.
"I was just showing her the play room." Nurse Kate quivered as she shot up out of her chair.
"You don't think she's a little old to be playing in here?" He questioned.
"Well.." She started.
"We need you in room 305." He cut her off.
She got up quickly and quietly and left.
He walked closely to me, bent down and whispered, "What was she really talking to you about?"
"Exactly what she said." I said.
"Are you sure?" He asked
"What are you asking, Dr.Smith?" I asked
"You should get to bed." He whispered.
His breath was fresh and minty and he smelled like peppermint tea.
"I'm not tired." I said.
"But it's past your bed time." He said.
He grabbed the handles of my wheelchair and wheeled me back my room.
He opened the door and wheeled me to my bed.
"Do you want me to help you?" He asked.
"I've got it." I said.
I grabbed the edge of my bed and pulled myself into it.
"You're gonna sleep in that?" He asked.
"No, but I prefer to change when you're not in the room." I said.
"Oh, yeah, sorry." He said as he backed out and closed the door.
"Creep." I muttered
I pulled out some pajamas and changed into them. I bought a couple of outfits at the mall. Because I couldn't get any clothes from home.
Landon! Oh my gosh who's taking care of him. And if Johnathan is there is he safe.
I couldn't thinks straight I pulled out my phone and called my mom.
Sorry, your call has been forwarded to an automatic voice message.
I hung up. I didn't want to leave a voicemail, I wanted to talk to her in person.
I don't understand why I can never catch a break! It's one thing after the other!
I felt a brush of sadness and hopelessness brush over me. I have to talk to someone and get this off my mind.
I texted Meg and said,
C: Hey
M: Sup
C: Life here's crappy
M: You OK?
C: Nvm
I didn't want to talk to her. I just wanted to have a good dream and forget about everything.
I plugged in my ear buds and played the song I always play Somewhere only we know.
I walked across and empty land, I knew the pathway like the back of my hand. I felt the earth beneath my feet, sat by the river and it made me complete.
~~~~~~••••••••~~~~~~
I woke up the next day with soggy pancakes, medicine, and homework.
I grabbed the disgusting things and shoved them in my mouth and pored the medicine down right along with it.
Dr.Smith walked in right as I was throwing it away. It's like these people know exactly when I wake up.
Right behind him two police officer walked in.
"Hi Carter, these nice gentlemen are just going to ask you a few questions as to why you were shot." Dr.Smith said.
"Now?" I asked.
"Unfortunately yes, they're very busy people." He said.
The tall, chocolate brown police officer with the wavy hair said, "I'm Mike and this is my partner, Leo."
"Hi." I said.
"So we're just gonna ask you some questions and you answer all you can, OK sweety?" Leo said.
"Uh,sure." I said.
"Do you remember where you were when you were shot?" Mike asked.
"This girl named Camille's house." I said.
"Why were you there?" He asked.
"A party." I said.
Do you remember the person who shot you, or how to describe them?" Leo asked.
I opened my mouth to answer but there was a loud ringing noise coming from Smith.
"Sorry boys I'm needed elsewhere, we can pick this up later." He said.
"Nobody else can be in here?" Mike asked.
"No, I'm sorry." Smith said, "We'll pick this up tomorrow Carter."
"Alright." I said.
They left and closed the door quietly.
I grabbed the remote and flicked through channels. Nothing was on.
"This hospital sucks!" I yelled.
The only thing to do was go to the play room.
Ew.
I walked inside and it was a ton of sad sick looking children throwing toys.
But I looked at the back and saw a girl sitting in the back. She seemed around my age so I walked back there.
"Hi." I said.
"Hi, I'm Rachel." She said.
That's it you'll know more about Rachel in the next chapter.
