Penelope sat along the cliff where she comes to clear her mind. She watched as the sun slowly came up and imagined all the what ifs that went through her mind.

She does that a lot of thinking nowadays. Penelope thinks about her dream, and Hope, and one person in particularly. She can't help it either. She tries and tries to suppress her feelings for Josie because she knows that Josie would never feel the same way. She knows that Josie and that blonde girl have something going on and she doesn't want to make things more problematic. Yet Penelope can't help but think of all of Josie's little things just make her smile on the inside and feel something she never has before. Her favorite thing about Josie though is how she is always trying to be a bitch, who can control and commands everyone but is actually a softy who likes to be pampered a lot.

"Hey!"

Penelope turned around, inwardly smiling at seeing the shorter figure approach.

That was another thing that she loves, you know, it was great talking to people who actually cared about you as a person and not have to worry about them stabbing you in the back later.

"What are you doing all the way up here?" Hope cast a sideway glance at her.

"Nothing. Just wanted to clear mind before heading in search of new work. Yesterday's was absolutely the worst" Hope chuckled at that, nodding in agreement.

"It's a helluva good view, though," Hope said after a moment.

Penelope laughed again, the sound bouncing off the rock around them. Encouraged, Hope to continue.

"I mean, Mystic Falls got its ups and downs, and it was roughed up a bit, but it looks okay to me. It'll endure and mend." She paused, and Penelope could've sworn she felt Hope glance at her quickly as she said

"Some might even call it pretty from up here."

Penelope turned to look at Hope fully, who seemed to be staring very pointedly straight ahead. Her arm was tense under the black jacket, though Penelope couldn't imagine why. After a pause, Penelope said heatedly.

"It's never pretty, not even up close. In fact, that's the worst, seeing it up close with the cracks. It's one-half broken and one-half ugly. " She blinked back tears and shook her head.

Penelope kicked a couple of the small rocks and pulled away, sitting down on the dry grass and letting her legs dangle over the side. She looked up at Hope, who was staring at her with an unreadable expression.

"Sit with me," she said, patting the grass next to her.

Hope dropped her backpack to the ground but didn't move, raising an eyebrow in surprise. "Wow, you wants to sit on the edge of a cliff now? You surprise me, Park." Penelope shot her an uneasy look, but didn't say anything, brushing some dirt off her black jeans. Hope sat cross-legged next to her, anyways, plopping down on the hard earth. Their arms brushed slightly.

Hope cleared her throat.

"You know, I actually think those are the best parts. The broken and ugly bits," she clarified.

"They make everything more real, and when you see it all together, it becomes something even better than what you originally imagined." Hope looked back out across the chasm, gazing at anything but at the girlnext to her.
