Penelope was stuffing another single dollar tip into her apron the last customer left behind with a small frown on her face. The customer left behind more of a mess than a tip... Rag in her hand, she cleaned the small table and sighed.
"Think he couldn't left me more than just a ruddy dollar..."
"Eh, don't complain," said Davina not far from her who was cleaning the espresso machine behind the counter.
"We get it pretty sweet here. Though, I still think they could have made some other business then 'Coffee Shop'"penelope mumbled.
She finished cleaning up the table, stacking the Styrofoam cups and placing them in the trash.
"Well, don't matter, I guess."
"I need to go to the back to check stock and bring some cups and stuff out here. Can you manage the counter?" Penelope asked as she began walking to the back.
"Yeah, sure," Davina said, going behind the counter anyway. She started to wash her hands in the sink next to the blenders.
After Penelope left Davina's phone rang. Since it was their lunch time and no customer was expected, she decided to take that call and walk out of the cafe from front door.
Soon after she disappeared, the soft step of old boots were heard moving over to the snack display. Penelope returned with cups and was surprised to see a customer at their lunch time.
"Hi! Welcom sir, what can I get for you?" Penelope asks the customer, whose covered in a bucket hat and black mask.
The customer coughed and took out his wallet.
"One hot chocolate please." A voice called out.
Penelope didn't think much of it and put it into the register.
"That would be $2.45." Penelope took the money from the outstretched hand and pushed it into the cash register.
"One second please." Penelope looked behind the man to see for Davina, but she was no where around.
As Penelope turned around, she felt the man stare into her back, making her uncomfortable. After a long 5 minutes, Penelope turned around to give the man his drink.
The man mumbled a small thanks and took a last look towards counter and went out.
‘okay. That was really weird.’
-------------------------------"Hey, wanna get pie?"
Hope shifts from where she lies in fucked out bliss, face-down with the sheets tossed loosely over her lower half. She blinks into her arm, yawning.
"What?"
"I'm hungry," Lizzie says. Hope feels the bed shift as she leaves it but doesn't bother looking. She presses her cheek further into the mattress and lets her eyes drift shut.
"I'm sleepy."
"Come on, Hope." As Lizzie's mouth touches the back of her neck, Hope shivers. She kisses the knobby top of her spine, brushing her lips down her back.
"We can get all you-can-eat pies at diner."
Hope mumbles a complaint that comes out like a whine. Lizzie's warm hand traces down her side, coming to rest at her hip, where her thumb massages circles into Hope's skin. She nibbles her lower back and sucks; the wet of her tongue has Hope arching back, just a bit.
"Milkshakes, too. You can get the cookies and cream one you like."
"I don't wanna shower."
"Fuck that. I'm not gonna shower."
"Liz, that's gross."
Hope can feel Lizzie grinning into her skin.
"What?"
Hope reaches behind her to smack Lizzie's head. Lizzie pulls away, laughing.
"Hope, please." Her tone turns pleading.
"I'll eat you again in the morning."
"You say that like you weren't already going to."
Hope lets Lizzie roll her onto her back so she's looking at her, hovering over her with her lower lip jutting out in a pout. She's put on a pair of tight boxers, the hem low enough that the hickeys Hope sucked into her hip bones are visible. Her hair's a mess and her lips are swollen and there's another bruise on her throat. They're not really in any state to go out in public.
"Hope, I want pies."
"Ugh. Fine." Hope pushes her away with a hand to her chest and sits up, sighing.
Lizzie looks almost comically pleased, toothy grin and scrunched-up eyes. It's cute, and Hope's weak, so she finds her leaning over to kiss her nose.
At least until she's trying to put on underwear and Lizzie kissing down her shoulder, arms tangled around her waist.
"If you keep distracting me, we're never gonna go," Hope complains, but she likes Lizzie's lips on her far too much to pull away.
Lizzie leaves her alone, eventually, after a final nibble on a hickey at the junction of her shoulder and neck. Hope finds a pair of sweats and Lizzie's hoodie to wear, no shirt underneath, big enough that it falls down her thighs and shows off her collarbones.
-------------------------------
“It’s perfect for you, I promise” Lizzie insisted.
“I don’t know, Liz, I have to ask Penelope” Hope shook her head.
“I know - but think about it. If you’re going to work in a library, I can see you every afternoon and in lunch time and even in my free classes. Isn't that amazing”
“ You're soo cute but Pen will kill me. You know that she hates coffee, she can't even bear its smell and yet she is working their so that we can get out of this situation. And if I tell her that I got a job at library she will literally kill me. She loves books and writing its- it's heaven for her.”
“Hmm. So how you are going to manage to enter into that art competition. No offense but from what she earns, it's not enough”
“I don't know Liz. I don't know”
