Harry's P.O.V.
Kaila has this crazy idea that she is responsible for what happened to Darcy. It isn't her fault, it's just her genes. Beside if it had to happen I'm glad it is happening now, before we really get to know her, before she can talk, before we can learn who she is. If we knew all of that it would just make things a whole lot harder.
Thanksgiving is tomorrow and we are going down to my mum's house. This will be the first time Kaila is in Holmes Chapel. I am really excited for her to see everything and everyone in their natural element.
Though Thanksgiving is tomorrow we are flying up tonight. Kaila is finising packing and I am getting the girls ready to go. As upset as I am about everything, Kaila is a million times more upset. She is allergic to strawberries and doesn't like people eating them in front of her because she enjoys them so much. I will make sure my house has no strawberries to start. She loves Twix just like me. I will make sure she has an endless supply while she is at my house. The best part is yet to come, I have put a downpayment on a house.
Whenever we pass this one house Kaila's eyes light up. She always said how she would die to live in that house and raise a family there. I bought it. I am going to tell her this weekend.
Quiet sobbing comes from another room. I put the girls' stuff down and walk out into the hall. It comes from the bathroom. Slowly, to make sure it isn't Eleanor in there, I open the door. Kaila is sitting on the ground. I run to her side.
"Kaila! Baby what's wrong?" I ask.
"I did research." She replies softly.
"On what?"
"Brain tumors. Some primary tumors have a life expectancy of less than a year sometimes only a few months. However, some that have survived with aggressive treatment, against the odds, for a number of years. Some other low grade tumorshave a much longer life expectancy with treatment, well over five years. There are other non-malignant tumors that do not particularly affect life expectancy. What if she dies?"
"Then we move on. We can't dwell on this. She is with us for now and we have to treasure the time we have. And we need to raise Natalie. We need to be strong."
"You're right. I love you."
"I love you too, babes. Come on, let's go."
She nods her head and gets up.
We get out of the house and pass the house I bought for her. As always she smiles brightly, but then her smile fades.
"What's wrong babes?" I ask.
"The house, it's been sold. I know I wasn't ever gonna actually live in it but still. Someone else will be living in my dream house. SOemone else will be raising a family where I want to."
I pull over the car. She looks at me confused and I get out of the car. Kaila hops out after me.
"Harry! WHat are you doing? Get back in the car!" She yells.
I stroll up to the front door and open it.
"Harry!"
I walk in and Kaila follows just as planned. I set up one photo of all of us. When she sees it I will tell her it's our house.
"Harry! Get out here!" She yells in a whisper.
I don't listen. She hesitates but then follows me inside. After one step she stops complaining.
"Wow." She wonders in a bit more.
"What is it?" I sneak up behind her. She jumps.
"Harry, you scared me. We need to leave!"
"Well what do you think of the inside?"
"It's even prettier than the outside." She tells me.
I smile.
"I wanna show you something." I start to pull her forward but doesn't move. "Come on Kaila, we are already inside."
She finally gives in and let's me drag her across the floor of the house. I get to where I put the picture and it isn't there.
I run around the house looking for the photo. It is nowhere. What the hell!
Kaila's P.O.V.
"What am I looking at?" I ask.
"Uuummmm this wall. Nice color right? I'll be right back." He calls as he runs away.
What the hell? That was really weird. It is a nice color though.
Something falls a breaks behind me. It sounds like someone knocked something over while trying to be quiet. I turn around and see a pair of grey Toms turning the corner.
"Louis?" I ask.
A head pops out and Louis responds. "You called?" He asks in a sweet kind of way and a this is totally normal kind of way.
"What are you doing here?"
"Well don't tell Harry but he bought you this house. I was supposed to move your stuff inside this weekend. I didn't know you guys would be coming in this early. I thought you'd come in when you got back."
I was stunned. "He bought me this house?"
"Yeah. He knows how badly you wanted to live in it and raise a family. He wanted you to be able to raise your entire family here for at least a little while, including Darcy."
A mop of chocolate brown curls enters the room.
"Louis?" He asks in a yelling tone.
I run up to him and give him a huge hug. I never want to let go.
"You are too sweet. I love you so much." I whisper in his ear.
"Louis told you?"
"Yup." I say popping the p.
"Well I love you more."
"Well I love you most."
"Dammit! You always win." I say with a smile.
"I guess that makes it true." She says back.
"Not possible. Nobody can love anybody or anything as much I love you. It just isn't possible." I explain.
"That must be a lot."
"Oh it is."
She giggles and I smile at her giggle. She is just so cute.
"So you really bought this house for me?"
"For you." I say. She smiles and as do I. As long as she's smiling I'm smiling. As long as she isn't I'm not either.
