Chapter 8: Secrets Kept Safe
Brett P.O.V.
The girl leads me inside her room and motions me to sit on a chair. I smile at her again, hoping she'd smile back like she did earlier. She didn't. Instead, she narrowed her eyes.
"What are your evil intentions with Lea?" How does she know? Am I that obvious... Wait, does this girl read minds or what?
"What are you talking about? I like her, so I just want to get her to like me." I try to say, sounding as sincere as possible about someone I don't even know.
"Well, it doesn't take a genius to know that you're a creep. Why else would you come to her house?" Dang, Jake had to live with her? I feel his pain.
"Um, no. She actually invited me." I say trying to sound content, but I swear I was about to have a voice crack while saying this. Or puberty just hates me that much. Her eyes turn back to their normal size and she turns to let me out of her room. She gives one last look, or glare, or whatever, at me, then turns her heel and leaves.
"Second door to the left. Oh and, Don't. Hurt. Her. Or Else." She says the last part with gritted teeth. Jesus, calm down child. I think about this for a couple of seconds, wondering why she said that. Could that mean Lea's had an ex? Huhuhu I guess innocent Lea has a past.
I head out of the door and head to the second door to the left. The door is closed, but I'm really not in the mood for knocking. I walk in and a startled strangling sound comes from the room. I look over to find Lea half hyperventilating and half glaring thousands of daggers at me.
"What are you doing in here?" She hissed. Though, not gonna lie, it was kinda cute seeing her upset.
"Missed me, princess?" I smirk at her. She glares more daggers at me. Calm down, woman. Seriously, her whole family has a problem.
"No, of course not. Now can you please leave? Wait no, first of all, why'd you come to my house? More so, my room? Like that's seriously some creepy stalker behavior. Second of all, you should have knocked, I could've been changing on something!" She hisses at me again. I swear if I couldn't see I would half think she's a cat.
"Well I came to your house to say hi. I only went to your room because your mom wanted me to tell you that she cares about you or something like that. Don't worry, I luckily don't stoop that low to stalker level." Her facial expression changes from annoyed to surprised. Her shoulders finally relax a bit, almost like there was a huge weight lifted. Before she can ask, I continue speaking.
"And I don't care if you were changing, I wanted to see you!" I exclaim, winking at her. Her face just turned utterly confused and there was no doubt, a bit of blush residing on her cheeks. Yep, I still got my charm.

"Okay, well now that I'm here, do ya wanna tell me why your mom has been avoiding you?" He asks.
"No, of course I don't wanna tell you. I barely even know you." Dang, did I really just say that to myself. It hits me as I look up at his face. Sh-t, did I say that out loud?
"Ok, well then, I'll introduce myself first. Hi, I'm Brett Anderson, 17 years old. I'm so good at sports and I have great buddies that I can call my friends. My family sucks a-s-" His bored look changed in a rapid movement to a very shocked face. He hates his family? Wha- am I missing something important? Is this the whole "we're more alike than we seem" drama trope Emma always talks about? Before I can ask anything, he cuts me off.
"Y-you didn't hear anything.... I-I just meant that my brothers a-are super annoying..." He stutters, obviously in shock. Not going to lie, it was pretty cute. What am I thinking? Nope, I don't want my love life to be some sort of cliche cheesy romance. Ew. Wait, but does he even have brothers? I give him a questioning look, raising my eyebrows.
"You know, you can tell me. I haven't had the greatest... life growing up." I sigh at this. It's true though. He nods, looking at the floor. Then a few seconds later, he lifts his head sending me an expecting something sort-of glare.
"So.... are you gonna explain? Or what?" I really haven't told anyone this, but Emma, Sophie, and Jake. Oh, and... my ex.
"Umm, not really." I sigh, looking down at the wooden floor. When I look up, he sends me a creepy glare. "Okay, fine fine fine." "Momgotdivorcedwithmyfathereventhough," I inhale sharply, "Weallknewshestilllikedhimandthenonedayhedisappearedsomewhere, and never came back. Maybethat'swhyInowhavesometrustissuesbutIdon'treallyknow" Ok, hopefully he didn't understand that. And even more hopefully, he'll just leave me alone.
"Ok.... so you're saying, your father left your mother one day and then a while later he disappeared, and no one could find him anywhere, so you're all upset and really heartbroken." Bruh. w h a t ? How did he even hear me? Brett smirks at me.
"It's a typical trick, I'm not going to fall for you, or your stupid tricks that everyone knows." Oh my goodness, dude. I wasn't trying to do anything.
"Okay, well there's obviously something wrong with your life. Care to explain?" I ask and send a sickly sweet smile at him.
"No." He sends me a glare and looks out my window.
"C'mon, I told you my story, so can't you tell me yours?" At this point, I really want to know. "Okay then, I'll tell you one more thing, anything, about me if you tell me." His smirk reappears instantly. Ah shoot, bad idea, bad idea, bad idea. What do I do???

"Ok," he takes in a breath, "It started a few years ago. Mom and Dad had a huge company, but then Dad cheated on Mom. Mom fired the woman who he had the affair with, so the woman went to a better company, and our company lost lots of customers because they blackmailed our company. We don't have enough money to afford practically anything, and now they're fighting yet again." I take a deep breath and sigh. When I look at her, she looks stunned, and also visibly uncomfortable.
"A-are you okay?" She asks, clearly concerned. I honestly don't really care. Except I really do need more money to help my family. But mainly me. But for now, I get to ask her anything I want. I work through my memories trying to find a juicy question. This is a rare opportunity, got to use my remaining brain cells.
"Now that means, I get to ask you. Ok, so a while back, when you tripped on me, you said you were thinking about something. What was that?" I just hear a huge gasp-breath sort of sound and look up to see a stunned Lea.
Okay, so I was spot-on with the question. Mission was a success.
