Draco's POV
Life is so complicated. Almost not even worth living. How can someone live a life like mine?
Is it possible?
I've made so many mistakes, especially to those I love. Can they ever forgive me? Could I ever forgive myself?
Could I actually be happy for once in a life I no longer want?
Harry. He's the only thing I want. The only true thing. I want to live happily with him. Where we don't have to hide from others or from fear. Where we could live peacefully surrounded in each other's comfort.
However, I had to curse myself. I'm now pondering a riddle where the answer had been erased.
My mind is almost playing tricks on me.
The love of my life, who was deemed as my enemy since being born, lost all of his memories on me and yet, I had gained him as a friend.
Was life testing me? Seeing if I'd play my cards right in the end before my father and Voldemort stepped in and ruined it all.
"Draco. Are you paying attention?" Harry's soothing voice caressed my ears and brought me back to reality.
"What? Oh yes, sorry. Potions homework."
"Yeah." Harry mused. "The one you said you would help me on?" The two of us sat in a secluded part of the library, text books and parchment paper was sprawled out everywhere.
"Right. I just got distracted is all. Where were we?" I questioned.
He laughed slightly at me. "You were telling me how to make Amortentia." Harry explained.
"Oh, right."
The two of us got back to work and we went over several potions in preparation of our next exam. Slughorn's class is turning out to be a bit more of a challenge then usual. Probably because his way of teaching and some of the ways we make potions contradict that of Snape's.
I know Snape is all happy he got the job for defense, but I much preferred him as the potions master. Not to mention the defense against the dark arts position is surely cursed if we take into retrospect of our previous teachers.
"Ok. I think I'm done." Harry said. My gaze left my work to look at Harry's.
"You forgot to explain why the punishment for using Amortentia is so harsh."
Harry looked down at his paper and groaned before continuing to write.
I continued working on my essay until finally I finished all of my school work for tonight.
That wasn't so bad. I got it all done even before dinner.
"How about this?" Harry asked, giving me his paper.
I read it over. "Better. You didn't forget anything, so that's good. Grammar could use a little work."
"Hey! My grammar is just fine, thank you very much!" Harry said dramatically.
I smiled slightly. "Sure, Potter."
"You could call me Harry if you want to." Harry brought up.
My eyes shot to him. "What?"
"I said you can call me Harry. We're friends, after all. No need to call me by my last name."
"Oh, uhm. Alright. Harry." I blushed slightly. Liking the sound of his name coming off of my tongue.
Harry smiled widely at me. "Come on! It's almost dinner!" Harry shouted before standing up and pulling me with him.
He rushed us down the hallways of the school, excited to get food. "Harry! Wait!"
He just kept pulling me and I kept resisting as the door to the Great Hall appeared.
"Harry! I mean it, stop!" I shouted.
His movements came to a halt before looking back to stare at me.
"Remember our agreement? Our friendship stays secret. I can't go in there with you!" I told him.
Harry's face fell slightly before he let my still trapped wrist go.
"Right. Sorry. I guess I forgot."
"It's fine, but you should go in and eat, I'll enter a few minutes after you."
"But I wanted to eat with you." Harry whispered under his breath, but I heard him nonetheless.
I sighed. "I'm sorry, Harry. I just can't."
He nods his head in understanding, before his face broke out in a wide smile once again.
He grabbed my wrist before pulling me in an entirely different direction.
"Wait! Where are we going?"
He didn't answer me until he immediately stopped in front of a painting.
"I know how we can eat together without others finding out."
"How?"
"Can you keep a secret?"
I scoffed. "I'm in Slytherin. Of course I can."
He only smiled again. Damn those smiles really are going to kill me.
Harry faced the painting and my brows furrowed. Completely confused on what he was trying to accomplish.
Then I noticed that he tickled the pair with his index finger and a secret door opened.
I gasped. "What is this?"
"The entrance to the kitchens. Ron and I sometimes come down here to sneak snacks. Not many people know about it." He said, pulling me into the room.
"Master Harry Potter!" I heard a familiar voice shout.
"Hello Dobby. How are you?" Harry greeted the house elf.
Dobby? Wait a minute. That's-
"Oh! Master Draco!" Dobby said, taking a step back.
I never actually done anything to the elf. Unlike my father, I never believed in hurting and abusing the house elves. However, it only made sense that Dobby would fear me seeing as the type of man my father is.
"It's ok, Dobby. He's a friend of mine. He won't hurt you." Harry explained, getting on the same level as the elf.
"Dobby knows. Master Draco has never harmed Dobby, but I'm just being cautious."
I kneeled to also get on the elves level. "I'm sorry for what my father has done to you. I'm glad you were able to get free and away from him."
Dobby nodded his head at me, giving me a slight smile saying he forgives me.
"Never was your fault." He replied.
"Dobby used to work for you?" Harry questioned.
"Yes. Years ago, my father said he got rid of him. I never knew the meaning of his words though."
"Master Harry Potter does not remember?" Dobby inspected Harry intently.
"Sorry Dobby. I don't. You see, someone erased all of my memories of Draco. I don't recall him or anything that he's been involved with." Harry explained.
Dobby gasped. "Someone messed with masters mind!"
"Yes. Maybe you could fill me in on how you were freed again, just so I have a better picture. Plus I think Draco would like to know what happened too."
I nodded my head in agreement before Dobby disappeared to grab us some sandwiches and then told us what happened in our second year of school.
