Chapter 2: Meet Marina and the Schoolgirls

  The petals kept floating away while the wind kept blowing. The six pink petals floated from the Kabukicho District and went above the metropolitan city. Unlike other people, Mayu never had a friend for being a china doll who was transformed into a human girl. Then, the petals found themselves in Kita, Tokyo, home of the five schoolgirls. They attend Asuka High School with their classmates. Some of them are boys and girls. In a classroom, Marina Fukuhara, a orange haired-girl who is known for solving mysteries, is proclaimed as the girl with beanie with cat ears. She is reading her book "The Moving Finger" while sitting in her desk. "A little old lady who doesn't seem to do much." She said to herself as her friend, Hisa Aochi, appeared and approached. "Hiya, Hisa."

"Hi, Marina!" Hisa greeted her as she sat in her chair, crossing her legs. "What the heck are you doing?"

"Reading a Agatha Christie book." Marina stated as she flipped the page. "Agatha Christie created those novels. I went to England with my parents and they gave me a book."

"Cool." Hisa was impressed as she giggled. "Agatha is the one of those ladies."

"Agatha is a dame." Marina stood up as she pretended that she looked for something. She noticed an imaginary contact and picked it up, before showing it to Hisa. "I saw a contact in the floor."

"Ho-ho, really?"

"Whatever. But, every detective or amateur sleuth can do."

The two girls chatted to each other about mystery. They have read every mystery book and learned everything. Later, on lunch time, Marina and Hisa sat in their seat next to each other and pulled out their lunch from their bags. Two other girls, Tamayo and Azumi, sat next to them as well.

"Hey, Marina!" Azumi greeted her.

"How's it goin', Mari?" Tamayo greeted her as well.

"Really fine, Azumi." Marina picked up a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and ate it. "Want a piece of my sandwich?"

"Oh, right!" Azumi picked up a piece of the sandwich and ate it. "Remember the braided girl?"

"Braided girl? Who? Fusako?"

"You're right! Fusako! She's one of our classmates!"

"Exactly! Look!" Tamayo showed Marina and Hisa another blonde girl with braided pigtails, her name is Fusako. Another girl, named Kira Deguchi appeared. "Oh, my. Kira."

"The cool girl." Hisa remarked.

Kira was considered the popular girl of Asuka High School. She always said her catchphrase to tell people to stay cool. She walked next to Marina and her friends and leaned forward the table. "Hello, Marina. Hello, Hisa, Azumi and Tamayo."

"Hello, Kira." Marina apathetically greeted her.

"Be careful now, Kira, or I'm gonna use my boxing gloves!" Tamayo claimed as she taunted her.

Kira smirked confidently. "You're such a group of losers, sleuths."

"Wait, what?!"

"Don't mess with them!" said Hisa.

"Oh, I'm really taunted!"

"Jeepers...."

The girls argued with each other as Azumi watched them, realizing it's some kind of game. Some time later, after class ended, Marina and her friends are on their way home, walking in the street. Fusako, their classmate, appeared.

"Girls, wait!" She said, getting their attention.

"Hey." Marina turned around to see her. "What brings here, Fusako?"

"I saw you girls arguing with Kira today. I may not be a talkative, but, It's a hard day."

"Yep. I think so. I watched every mystery movie."

"Ha! You're a mystery fan!" said Tamayo.

Marina and her classmates kept walking as they chatted. When they passed the police station, the orange-haired girl noticed something in their way. "Hmm...." Marina looked around as she walked quietly and looked down where an eraser is under the ladder. She kneeled as she observed it. "Somebody left a eraser here."

"Whose eraser is this?" Hisa asked.

"I don't know. Probably belonged to a student." Marina replied.

At night, Back to Kabukicho District, Mayu is listening to J-pop music in her hideout. She is observing the stars in the sky. "What a beautiful night in Tokyo. If people were here to see this, they'll love it." She remarked as she smiled and put her hand in her hip. "Everything is cool here in Kabukicho. It's a Sleepless Town, you know. For a living doll, I will have some friends some day. What am I going to do tonight? Going around the city to look for anyone?" Mayu thought as she snapped her fingers, getting an idea. "That's right!"

Later, Mayu went to Sodai Riko mae and awaited for a bus to show up. She tried to stop the bus in order to go to another city, but, no avail. "Stopping a bus is pretty hard. I gotta use a train." She thought to herself. Then, Mayu went to Nishi-wased Station and awaited for a train instead. "Kon'nichiwa." She greeted a man as the train appeared. "I feel like a outsider. What a outsider would do?" Mayu said to herself and listened to J-pop music again. 

The train went from the station and stopped at the first station, Ikebukuro. She greeted a girl, who ignored her as she sighed. Mayu observed the buildings from outside, including Nagashio Hospital. Some hours later, The china doll has left the Itabashi station and is on her way. Mayu greeted some people before arriving at Marina's residence in 6-chome-42 Takinogawa in Kita City.

"What a nice house!" She said to herself as she observed the house. Without a way to get inside, Mayu entered to another apartment and watched the Fukuhara house in the other side of the street. "I can see that! Nobody is here to see me." Mayu proudly said to herself as she pulled out a pair of binoculars and watched Marina talking to the phone while reading a mystery book.

"Gosh, Hisa-chan. Is Daichi having a prank on you at dinner?" Marina asked. She is wearing her normal outfit instead of her school uniform. The outfit consisted of a red shirt with a white undershirt with five black stripes, blue jeans, red and white sneakers and a gray beanie with cat ears. "Well, you must do something without being bothered, girl."

"Wow...."

"He should grow up and forget all of this. What? What's Daichi doing? Did he came to your room to make a mess?"

"Oh my stars. She got a group of friends." Mayu was fascinated.

"People might see her as a girl with a beanie. She's like....the only daughter in the family. If I'm gonna have good memories, they'll share with mine."
