WHILE SCOTT AND THE OTHERS WENT TO CANAAN, LIAM AND HAYDEN ENACTED ANOTHER PLAN.

The true alpha gave them permission to move forward, as long as they didn't destroy his house again. He felt confident in their goal, which was to catch a ghost rider. Using materials to build a lightning rod, the couple truly believed it could be done.

However, they quickly ran into unexpected obstacles. The first came in the form of their physics teacher, Mr. Douglas. When sneaking into the basement to gather supplies, Liam and Hayden found the man fiddling with his own gadgets.

Through conversation, they learned that Mr. Douglas had witnessed the ghost riders the night of the lacrosse game. Now, he wanted to stop them, too. His determination is what caused Liam to include him into building a lightning rod. His expertise in physics would only bring benefits.

Their next obstacle came when reviewing their plan one last time. Mr. Douglas brought up decent points, wondering aloud if the ghost riders could control lightning since they rode it in the storms. To stop them, he proposed the necessity of absorbing a lightning bolt. However, none of their supplies could hold that much electricity.

Liam thought he figured out a solution, but it was risky. Instead of finding a conduit, he spoke to Hayden about finding a person who could handle the lightning.

"I don't think even Kira could do that," Hayden stated as she walked with her boyfriend down the school hallway.

"Josh could," Liam reminded her of the chimera. "He ate electricity."

"Josh is dead."

Liam kept his voice low so no one would hear them eavesdropping, "Yeah, but his power didn't die with him."

"He might as well have," Hayden said. "It's not like we can get to it."

"We don't know that," Liam argued quietly. "Not for sure."

Hayden stopped walking. Her heel turned, her body facing him as she met his eyes. "What are you saying?" she asked, concerned that she might already know the answer.

Liam sighed before he replied vaguely, "You know what I'm saying."

His idea was completely insane. Both of the sophomores knew it. Josh's power got buried with the one person who destroyed their first semester, who took advantage of them. Hayden held no desire to ever head back down that path. It was dark and full of risks. However, Liam needed her to be on board.

So, with great reluctance, Hayden agreed.

Together after school, they headed to the tunnels to meet someone who could help them out. Hayden scrunched her nose in disgust, the musty smell stronger from her last visit as she avoided a still puddle. Then again, last time she was just a chimera.

Now, she was a real werewolf.

"We're almost there," she warned Liam as they turned a corner, the dim lights guiding their way. "Last chance to bail."

"If we're going to stand a chance, we have to do something drastic," Liam reasoned, his hands fiddling together while he walked.

Hayden scoffed, her arms swinging at her sides. "There's drastic, and then there's this," Hayden stated.

"I know it's not the perfect plan," Liam said. "But we need the bad part of the plan to make the good part work."

"Sierra's gonna kill us."

The sophomores froze, Hayden surprised at her own words. When Liam looked at her with widened eyes, she stuttered, "It, it just slipped out." Her brows furrowed, "What do you think it means?"
