❝ So Little Tangerine - Man Doesn't Know , Does He ? ❞
[ y/n ] had an indescribable, weird feeling inside of her; she didn't know what caused the feeling or what it was. Was it Hinata? He had been showing up and talking to her more and more every day, and everyday Kageyama would be with him, lingering behind him like a kid hiding behind their parent's leg. It would often happen when she was wandering around aimlessly with Fujimoto or Choko, and depending on the person, Kageyama's look would turn into a hard glare.
She was walking the halls with Choko when she bumped into Hinata, as their normal routine would turn out. The two girls shared a smile with the bubbly ginger-haired boy, who had turned to Kageyama and began teasing him of his poor social skills. [ y/n ] caught herself laughing at their bicker instead as they got farther away from them."So little Tangerine-Man doesn't know, does he?" Choko said once they were far enough away from them.
"Hm? Oh, you mean Hinata?" [ y/n ] raised her eyebrows, surprised her friend didn't know his name yet, "yeah, he doesn't know. Unless Kageyama told him, which I highly doubt."
"Ah~" she hummed, closing her eyes and putting her hand on her chin, "maybe you should tell him, you seem close enough, and he kept teasing Mr. Serious about being single and friendless,"
"Oh wow, Choko- use their names, they have them for a reason," [ y/n ] laughed before her expression returned to her usual, more serious one, "I don't know about telling him though,"
"There's no harm in it! Plus, the most he'd do is make fun of Kageyama even more than he already does..."
"I guess, I don't know- hm, I guess I could," [ y/n ] fumbled over the words tumbling out of her mouth as she thought out loud, "I'll think about it, I guess,"
"you should~" Choko insisted once more, "ugh, you wanna get some juice? I would kill for an orange juice right now,"
"Yeah, I could get a green tea," [ y/n ] nodded, "I'm paying this time,"‧͙⁺˚*・༓☾ ☽༓・*˚⁺‧͙
[ y/n ] was stewing on Choko's suggestion for much longer than she wanted and necessary.
"I'm so indecisive," She grumbled aloud as she stood up from her desk, seeing as Fujimoto was waiting by the door for her. "Hey, Fuji; one or two?"
"uh, depends; what's it for?" He raised his eyebrows to her, she shook her head.
"Just pick one, please."
"hm, three," he smirked, earning an annoyed look from [ y/n ]; making him laugh, "okay, okay, two!"
"Okay, thanks,"
"...Are you gonna tell me what that's for?"
"I couldn't decide on something- oh perfect," she glanced up to see Hinata and Kageyama, just as expected. They both smiled at Hinata before she spoke up, "Hey, Hinata-Kun, can I tell you something?" She used her head to signal for the two of them to step away from the others; she didn't even think twice about leaving Fujimoto and Kageyama together.
"Just Hinata is fine." He said before nodding, "What is it?"
"You know how I said I used to know Kageyama?" [ y/n ] cleared her throat, she felt awkward for no real reason at all, "we dated in junior high..."
"Okay," he responded simply
"huh?"
"I'm glad you told me, but that was in junior high, wasn't it?" Hinata had his eyes closed and his eyebrows furrowed as if he was deep in thought, "In my first and last volleyball match of Junior high, Kageyama beat me and I'm still his teammate; you were there too."Hinata's word struck something within her. It was weird, it was like her opinion on the matter changed; how she viewed it had altered entirely.
"Oh, you're right," [ y/n ] mumbled, Hinata cocked his head, unaware of the effect his words had on her, "Thanks Hinata!"
"You're welcome," Hinata responded, a slight confusion to his words.as she was turning away from Hinata; Fujimoto snapped his mouth closed, promptly ending his 'conversation' with Kageyama. [ y/n ] didn't see any parts of their conversation, but it wasn't a very friendly chat.
"So, you gonna tell me what your little 'one or two?' was about?" Fujimoto asked, snaking his arm around her waist. He turned his head over his shoulder only for the sake of shooting a glare at Kageyama, who was glaring back at him as he watched them walk away from him and Hinata.
"Hm, nope!" She smiled innocently up at him, he scoffed.
"C'mon~ you're not gonna tell me?" He said with a slight pout, [ y/n ] slipped out of his arms and sashayed ahead of him, turning around to face him as she walked backward with a bounce in her step.
"Bestie secrets," She said simply, teasing Fujimoto further.
"gah! Rude~" he put the back of his wrist against his forehead, "how dare you~" His actions made her let out a melodious laugh.
"Okay, drama queen, let's get going."‧͙⁺˚*・༓☾ ☽༓・*˚⁺‧͙
[ y/n ]'s hand gripped the handle as she rolled the door of class 3 for first years open, scanning the desks for a certain curly-haired male. She didn't see him, causing a sigh to escape her lips. However, she did see Kageyama; a newfound confidence rose in her and she approached his desk.
"Hey, To- Kageyama-Kun; did you see where Fuji went?" She asked him. Her voice caught him off guard, he did not think she'd want to talk to him considering everything.
"No, I didn't,"
"Ah, okay." She pursed her lips and sat on the desk in front of his, "I saw the practice match you played against Seijoh. You played really well, and Hinata- well, kind of," she let out a soft chuckle, remembering the disaster Hinata was the first half of the match. He was taken by surprise once again, she was talking to him again, randomly, after almost a year of no communication whatsoever.
"Oh.. you saw it?"
"Kato invited me, so I went." She closed her eyes momentarily, "It was nice being able to watch Volleyball again."
"You manage Basketball now?" He questioned, she took notice of his unchanged social skills, making her smile.
"Yeah, I decided to try something new."The conversation ended with that, leaving a silence between the two. It wasn't an uncomfortable or comfortable silence, but it was left in the grey middle space.
"Oi, [ n/n ], what are you doing in here?" Fujimoto's voice made her head snap up.
"Waiting for you- where were you?" She popped off the desk, giving Kageyama a small wave and a smile.
"I was going to get you," He said, resting his hand over her shoulder, shaking his head, "c'mon," she giggled at him before following him out of the classroom."Tobio! I have to talk to you," her fingers fiddled with the hem of her Team Jacket sleeve, "We should break up..."
"Okay."She froze at his response, not knowing how to react. Her heart ached and she felt nauseated.
He didn't care, did he? He didn't care. He didn't care. He didn't care.
Her mind was repeating that phrase making her feel worse and worse and all she did was bow her head and walk away. Everything hit her once she was away from everyone. Her breath hitched in her throat and she covered her mouth with her sleeve cover palm as she felt herself crumple forward into her hands. Tears began to slip down her cheeks and she broke completely. God, she hated it, she hated him; or at least that's what she thought.
A shiver ran down [ y/n ]'s spine as the random memory came back to her, giving her an uneasy feeling in her stomach. She found herself huddling closer to Fujimoto for comfort.
Why did she even talk to him in the first place? He messed up so much for her, why was she suddenly running back to him.[ a/n ]
