Thanks for checking out this story! I hope you like it.
This is many years before the start of the story, but it's very important. This is the day when creativity split into two separate sides. It becomes important later.
TW: intense pain, crying, forced split, you're going to be mad at Patton and Janus, screaming, angst, unsympathetic Patton, and unsympathetic Janus(these last two are only for a little bit).

"This can't go on longer-"
"I know but why now?"
"They won't understand what's happening."
"Stop talking about them like they're different people. They haven't been split yet."
"But we have to split them. It's better for Thomas."
"So you're just going to have the worst parts of him hide? He'll find out eventually."
"Janus this is for the best."
"I know that! Otherwise I wouldn't be agreeing to hide the dark sides."
"Good and bad need to be clear to Thomas."
"Are you sure this is the best way Patton?"
"Yes. This is the only way."
Hushed whispers could be heard from the hallway between the light and dark sides of the mind palace.
Patton and Janus were having a meeting, unknown by the other sides. They had talked about this before the mindpalace was split in half, and now it was time.
"I'll go get him," Patton said with a sigh.
Little did he know, Romulus had already been there. He was hiding around the corner, trying to figure out what Janus and Patton had been talking about.
When Patton walked around the corner, Romulus was still there, lost in his thoughts.
"Oh- Romulus! You're already here. I was just about to get you," Patton said with fake cheeriness.
Patton grabbed Romulus' hand and brought him back down the hallway to where Janus was waiting.
"What's going on?" Romulus asked. He was very confused, especially because of what he had heard them talking about before Patton got him.
"We just need you to do something for us," Janus said in a soft voice.
They moved Romulus so he was standing directly on the line between the dark and light sides.
Patton and Janus both grabbed one of Romulus' wrists, and watched as his wrists started to glow where they touched him.
"Roman."
"Remus."
"Split," Patton and Janus said at the same time.
The effect was instant. Romulus fell to the ground, holding his head and screaming bloody hell. The screams started to sound louder and layered, as if two people were screaming instead of one.
"What did you do!?!?!?!" Romulus yelled out, tears pouring down his face. His body began to glitch as his voice became even more layered.
Patton and Janus just watched as Romulus started glitching even more, enough that sometimes two people were visible.
The screams got louder the longer the process took. The two voices also started to sound different.
Finally the screaming stopped, and the body glitches one last time. Then when it stopped glitching, there were two people there instead of one.
"What the," Roman started.
"Hell," Remus said, finishing his sentence.
"What happened-"
"To me?"
Roman and Remus looked at each other, tears silently running down their faces. They each brought up their right arm, touching the other's shoulder. And then they launched into a hug.
"What did-"
"They do?"
Janus and Patton watched this, and then they walked forward.
"Roman, you need to come with me. Remus is going with Janus," Patton said.
Both Remus and Roman flinched at their names.
"We're Romulus, not-"
"Remus or Roman."
"It's time to go. Roman you're good creativity. You can't be near Remus. He's a bad part of Thomas," Patton stated coldly, grabbing Roman's wrist and pulled him away from Remus.
Remus tried to reach for Roman, only to be pulled back by Janus.
"We'll never-"
"Forgive you," Remus finished, watching as Roman was pulled away into the light side of the mindpalace.
Roman was still sobbing when he was pulled into the common room. He didn't want to be split. And he already missed his other half, even if it was supposedly the bad half. He didn't understand why it had to happen.
"It's okay, Roman. It's for the best," Patton said, trying pull Roman into a hug only to be shoved away.
"That's not!" Roman yelled, only to burst into tears again as he realized that there was no one there to finish his sentence.
"You need to finish your sentences, kiddo," Patton said softly.
"You're not," Roman started. He may not have finished his sentence, but the anger and hatred in his eyes made it clear what the meaning was.
"Kiddo-"
"I'll never," Roman started before running to his room.
It was the same as before, and Roman wasn't going to change it. He wanted it the same. He wanted to be whole again.
He curled up on his bed and cried into his pillow.
"I feel-"
Remus was also sobbing by the time he was pulled into the common room on the dark side.
"You'll be alright Remus. Just forget about Roman. It's for the best," Janus said quietly.
"My name!" Remus yelled in anger. He didn't know why he yelled it out, but he couldn't stop the anger that spiked through him.
"Can you please try to say full sentences? I know it's hard, but you'll be alright. I can replace Patton if you need someone like that," Janus tried. He wasn't sure what to do.
"My dad!" Remus yelled out in anger. There was hatred in his eyes that he didn't bother masking.
"Remus-"
"Forgive you," Remus stated, running to wherever. He ended up in a room that looked exactly like his old one.
He immediately ran to the bed and buried himself under the covers, sobbing over everything that happened. He missed his other half. He felt so lonely. He wanted to be whole again.
"Incomplete."
