Remus was in the dark side of the mind palace, but he could still hear what De- Janus had said about him. He couldn't believe it.
Janus hadn't even told Remus his name, and yet he told the light sides. He couldn't help the tears that started to form in his eyes.
He was being left. First it was Virgil. Now Janus. Remus was all alone. There was no one there for him anymore.
Janus had left for the light sides.
Janus -the same side who had told Remus he'd never leave him like Virgil- had left him.
Remus looked up as he heard footsteps coming down the hallway to the dark side of the mindpalace.
Janus came through the hallway smiling widely. He didn't look at all bothered. He had clearly forgotten all about what he had said.
Remus just sat there staring at Janus, not making a sound as tears slowly slipped down his face. He watched as Janus started gathering his stuff and getting ready to move over to the light side of the mindpalace.
"So that's just it then?" Remus asked quietly. Janus looked up, clearly shocked that Remus was there. He hadn't even noticed him. Remus' heart was slowly cracking. "You're leaving now?"
"I got accepted. I finally got accepted," Janus said with a smile, too focused on that then the fact that Remus was upset.
"And what about me? What am I supposed to do?" Remus asked angrily. That's when Janus noticed him crying.
"What's wrong?" Janus asked, his face falling slightly. That made Remus even more angry.
"What's wrong?!?! You tell me!" Remus snapped. "You weren't the one called the evil twin. Or did you think I wouldn't hear that?"
"You know I didn't mean it like that-"
"Then how did you mean it?" Remus was beyond pissed. Janus had completely forgotten him, and his anger was the only thing keeping him from completely breaking.
"I-" Janus started before stopping, not able to come up with any solid excuse for what he said.
"You forgot all about me the moment you got accepted," Remus stated.
"Remus I'm sure you'll be accepted eventually," Janus said, trying but failing to reassure him.
"You think that's what I wanted? No. I was fine with never being accepted. I was happy as long as you were here with me. I wasn't alone. All I ever wanted was to not be alone. And now you're leaving." Remus snapped.
"I-" Janus tried to say something, only to be cut off by Remus.
"You told me that you'd never leave me. I guess you really are just a liar," Remus stated coldly, sinking out of the dark side. He could've walked, but he didn't want to be there any longer.
He went to the only place he knew. And after the video, he knew that he would also be upset. After all, Remus wasn't the only one to get hurt and betrayed.
Remus popped up into the hallway where the light side rooms were. Patton had been making his way to Roman's room at the time, so he was surprised to see Remus had beat him there.
"Oh- um... hi Remus," Patton said, clearly a little scared to see Remus. "I was just going to check on Roman. What are you doing on this side of the mind palace?"
"Roman isn't going to want to see you. I'm here for my own reasons. He wasn't the only one betrayed by someone they trusted."
It was a low blow, but the pain that flashed over Patton's face gave Remus a little satisfaction. After all, you can't mess with one twin without the other getting defensive of them. Even if they weren't around each other very much.
Patton just nodded and walked back away from Roman's room. Remus walked up to it and knocked gently.
"Go away..." Roman's voice was quiet from inside the room. Remus could tell he had been crying.
"It's me, Remus," he said softly. He heard footsteps coming towards the door, and then it opened, exposing Roman with a tear stained face.
Remus instantly pulled Roman into a hug, walking in and closing the door. They sat on Roman's bed, crying as they hugged each other.
After a while they finally calmed down enough to talk over what had happened.
"I tried, Remus. I knew how much you wanted him to stay there with you. I tried to make sure he wasn't accepted so he'd stay, but I guess I didn't try hard enough," Roman muttered. They both looked so broken.
"It's okay. You tried. And even if you don't believe it, I love you. You have people that love you, Roman," Remus said quietly.
"I'm not his hero," Roman whispered. His eyes had a lost look in them, like as if he'd lost all purpose.
"Hey. You're still a hero. You're the prince. I'm just the unwanted dark parts of creativity. They'll love you no matter what," Remus stated. He also looked broken, like as if everything he thought he knew had gone missing in an instant. In a way, it had.
"You're wrong there. I'm not even good at being the prince. I try so hard, but it never seems to work. I guess we're both just unwanted," Roman murmured.
"Well I guess that means that we can just be unwanted together," Remus said, pulling Roman into another hug as ty both broke down into tears again.
Yes, they both felt betrayed and hurt and broken. But they had each other again. They were twins, and no one could break the bond that connected them, no matter hard they tried.
