"I read it" He told her in all seriousness.

"You read the whole book?" She asked a little taken aback.

"The whole thing" That's when Vera started to notice that his eyes were tired and how tousled his hair was and how he was still in yesterday's clothes.

"You didn't sleep all night?"

"It was like 500 pages! Of course I didn't sleep the whole night"

"Fred you didn't have to" A part of Vera was grateful to Fred who put in so much effort for her but the other part felt a little too vulnerable. The book was full of observations her father made about her and it had her fears, weaknesses and everything in between.

"I'm glad I did. The pictures in here are not so pretty. And I didn't want you to think of yourself as a monster, you're not" He told her.

Though it was a small gesture, Vera felt her stomach flip when she heard what Fred had said.
Her parents always loved her but she felt like a burden on them because she wasn't normal. They had to do things for her because she was their daughter, Fred didn't. He was just a random person she happened to know. He didn't have to stay up every night with her or keep her in his house or talk to her or even acknowledge her. But he chose to. He chose to read a book about her destructive powers, he saw her kill death eaters, he saw her eyes turn red and her hair turn white and yet he chose to stand by her.

"What are you looking at?" He asked the girl who had completely zoned out.

"You know you don't have to do these things" She told him.

"But I want to" A smile spread across her face.

"This is the first time someone read that book and didn't walk away from me. Except my parents, but they had to stay." She told him.

"Well, there's a first time for everything,love"

Vera's face grew hot as those words escaped his lips. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad, to live in the moment with him.

Fred started to explain what was written in the book. Vera was amazed at how detailed he was. The boy had spent all night reading, underlining and making notes.

"Fear manipulation isn't as scary when you get control of it" he said.

"It's not that easy to get full control Fred"

"But it's not that hard either! I'll help you" He shrugged.

Vera opened her mouth to say no or it's too dangerous but she couldn't. "Will you stay with me through it all?" She asked.

"Every single second" Fred's hand slid in hers as he gave a tight squeeze to it causing Vera to turn red and smile brightly.

"You look beautiful when you smile" Fred told her, poking her nose with his pointer.

Vera wanted to say something polite, like thank you or you too but what actually came out of her mouth was, "And you look like some I'd very much like to kiss" she didn't know where this newfound confidence or attraction came from but she didn't want to shy away from it.
Fred laughed at her comment but came closer to her nonetheless. As he leaned in more, Vera said, "I've never kissed anyone before" Her fingers were shaking and her heart was fluttering.
