"The Conversation" Chapter Twenty

Deciding to talk to Mr. Chisaki was a great decision. He was a calm, patient polite man. A lot like a father figure. He would always smile and crack jokes.

He was such a soft person, that It was hard to believe he was a retired mafia leader.

He coughed a lot, which made me worry, but he said he was fine and to just ignore it, Although I was still concerned.

He liked talking about his time as an active mafia leader. He would tell me about how grateful he was to have such a ride or die clan. But most of all he loved talking about Overhual.

"Kai was such an intelligent boy." Mr. Chisaki claimed. "He always had such great ideas and Analysis to better our clan." He said, slightly shaking his head.

He would mostly refer to Overhual as "boy" which is noticeable to me. It's like he knows Overhual doesn't act like a man, but a child. I wonder what their relationship was.

Although, He spoke so highly of Overhual, I couldn't believe we were talking about the same person. I wonder if he knew what a monster he was now.

"Once he gets here, I'm going to have a talk to that boy about locking you in this dark room. Shame on him." He grumbled disapprovingly.
"Why would he do such a thing to a sweet young woman? What is your relationship to Kai anyway, dear?

There was no straight answer to that. What was I supposed to say?

'He wanted an heir for his selfish desires so now I'm his baby mama.'

I could tell him the truth now, but it just didn't feel right. Besides I just met this guy, and it seemed like he had his own problems to deal with. His breathing was heavy and he coughed so often I don't think telling him about my Situation now was appropriate. A little patients is in order. So I settled for;

"I don't exactly know how to explain it."

"Ohh! Is it possible that your his love interest? Has Kai finally found someone?!" He asked excitedly.

Love interest? Yeah right.

"It's complicated."

"Everything with Kai is complicated!" He laughs, smacking a hand over his knee.
"I should have expected that. I'm his father, but not exactly his father."

He's right. That is complicated.

"As a child he would roam the streets, always getting in trouble. I would ask about his mother or father but he didn't have them around, so I decided to take him in."
Mr. Chisaki's face softened into a look a remorse.
"Kai's a good kid. He knows how to love, but he just has a very Peculiar way of showing it properly."

He knows how to love? Hard to believe. This man has either never met Overhaul or has never seen the side of him I know.

"Pops?"

Both our heads turned to the door, surprised to see Overhual standing there. He looked towards Mr. Yakuza then me, not too thrilled to see our little chit chat meet up.

"Ah, There you are. We were just talking about you." Mr, Chisaki saids, coughing at the end of his sentence.

"What are you doing in here? You shouldn't be out of bed." Overhual claims. His voice was low with worry. By his tone I could tell he cared a lot for this old man.

He went over to his pops and put a careful hand on his back.

"Never mind that boy. I need a word with you. It's about this young lady here. I don't like how you abandoned her in this drafty dark room."

Overhaul just shook his head with a slight eye role.

"It's just something going on that you don't need to worry about."

"Kai, I know you well enough to understand you have complications with handling situations in a relationship. If you love someone, but you get into an un agreement you must still not treat them so poorly! You do love her, right?"

Love?! Oh this mans got it all wrong. Kai doesn't love me. He's incapable of that feeling. And we're not in a relationship. He just-

"Yeah I do. Something like that. The situations a bit knotty. I can handle it." Overhual explains.

I almost shrieked. Did Kai just say he loves me?!! No. I must have heard him wrong. There's no way. This can't be!

It must be a lie. In no way my entire time being here did he show an affection of any sort.  

Mr. Chisaki began to have a coughing fit again, startling both Overhual and I. He was obviously unwell.

"C'mon pops, you should get back to your room."

Mr. Chisaki quieted his coughing for a brief moment to talk.
"Now you listen here. This is inexcusable. I don't want to see you treating a woman like that ever again. Do you understand me?"

Overhaul hung his head in shame, then obediently nodded.
I was watching Overhual get scolded like a child, and I had front row seats. This. was. the. best!

Overhaul helped Mr. Chisaki up and guided him to the door. He halted for a moment to slightly turn his head and speak.
"Come visit me again Y/N. If Kai gives you anymore trouble, don't hesitate to tell me, then I'll put him in his place. It was nice talking to you."

"Ah, Yes sir." I replied with a frown. A bit disappointed. I wanted to talk to Mr. Chisaki more but our time together was cut short. But, This was great! The only person more powerful the overhaul was Mr. Chisaki, and he was on my side. Im untouchable!

Talking to him was very settling. Just imagine if I can get Eri to come down here too. It would be comfortable.

"Chrono, go ahead and take her to get examined. I'm gonna get pops settled back in bed."

I didn't even notice Chronostasis lingering in the hallway outside the room.

"Yes boss." he answered and lead me back upstairs.
