"Sophie? Ready for-? Oh..."
Sophie quickly tried to cover up the stack of letters and wiped at her eyes as if she hadn't been crying for the last twenty minutes.
"I'll leave you alone if you want," Edaline offered, averting her eyes as if that would somehow make her feel better.
"It's fine," Sophie lied. She shoved the letters farther beneath her desk with her foot, and stood up shakily. Her knees wobbled as she made her way downstairs.
"Doing okay?" Grady asked. "Mallowmelt?"
"I'll pass," Sophie practically choked. Edaline had been making her so many treats in an attempt to cheer her up that she was pretty sure she'd barf if she ate another bite. "I've had enough to last a lifetime."
"Anything... interesting happen? You were up there for a while." He said it in a pointed tone that made her wonder if he'd been spying...
"It's nothing," Sophie promised quickly.
Sophie wished she could lie as well as Keefe could've.
