I paced around in our jail cell. First Eugene, and now Varian. I couldn't wait till this was over.
I kicked the cell door again.
"How are we supposed to stop Fitzherbert if we're stuck in this stupid cell?!" she glanced at Rapunzel's pale face, "Sorry, Raps."
"No, no. It's... Fine..."
"Cassie."
She swiveled to find Varian leaning on the cell door.
"Varian." she spat his name like it was poison.
"Ouch. That hurt, Cassie."
"Why are you here?" she demanded.
He opened the cell door and his flirtatious smile was replaced with a scowl. He faced Rapunzel.
"Seven years ago, you did nothing as I watched someone I loved be encased in amber. I was going to hurt Eugene, but since he's not here and I would hate to hurt Cassie," he winked at her and she growled back, "I'm going to hurt some one else instead."
He pulled out a glowing yellow vial and poured it over Lance. This time the amber grew much faster, and within seconds, Lance was encased in the substance.
"NO!" cried Rapunzel.
Cass pushed him up against a wall, "What did you do?" she asked menacingly.
Varian looked scared at first then smirked. He leaned down and placed a quick kiss on her lips.
She jumped back in surprise.
He ran out and locked the door.
"Thanks, Cassie, and good luck breaking that. Even I haven't figured out the formula.
Then he walked away, leaving behind a shocked Cass, a weeping Rapunzel, and a snoring Shorty.
