Keefe's POV:

This was it. A question and an answer that could change everything.

"Foster, will you go to the ball with me?" Keefe mentally scolded himself for not making it seem more like a date. He should have said 'will you be my date'.

He looked up and saw Sophie's shocked expression. Biana was giving her some sort of eyebrow raised look that Keefe couldn't comprehend.

"Uh, sure, Keefe. You know, like, as friends right?" She looked hopeful, so he went along with it.

"Yeah, of course, Foster." Keefe tried so hard to hide his hurt face beneath his smirk, but he could tell he wasn't doing great based on the waves of guilt coming from Sophie.

"Okay, great." She gave him a wobbly smile and then turned to Biana. "I have to go finish up some homework, but I'll hail you later, okay?" Biana nodded to Sophie and gave her shoulder a squeeze before she walked swiftly away.

"Well, that went great, didn't it." Biana folded her hands on the table and gave Keefe a look depicting that much sarcasm was implied.

"What are you talking about, that was the plan! I was only asking Foster so I would save her from going with those drool boys over there. Can't have that, can we?" Keefe laughed darkly and stared Biana right in the eyes.

"We both know that you like Sophie, so don't try to act like it's a secret." Keefe's eyebrows shot up so fast, he thought they would fall off.

"What? I....no, that's not it. What were we talking about before? Oh, look, there's an alicorn flying over the moon!"

Keefe decided to go for the distraction method. Unfortunately for him, Biana was smart and had very fast reflexes. Just as he was getting up to sprint away, Biana's hand pulled him back down.

She gave him a look of sympathy. "Oh, you poor thing, it's really bad, isn't it."

"What are you even talking about?" Keefe tried to flash his trademark smirk, but it ended up being a bit more like a grimace. He could tell his mask was fading.

"You fell hard, Keefe. No soft landings in sight."

"Fine. You're right. I am almost 100% sure that I am in love with Sophie Foster, who just happens to be the most oblivious girl in the Lost Cities." In the next few minutes, Keefe spilled everything, while Biana sat and listened.

"I've liked her since I first saw her, but I started falling in love with her after we went together to get her abilities reset the first time. I never stopped falling, but I started loving her even more in the last few weeks after I got out of my coma. You know, it's just so comforting to know that she cared so much about me, and she came to check on me, even if I wasn't conscious. The worst part is, I can feel that she loves me too, but she doesn't know it herself. Her brain is clouding her emotions."

Biana patted his arm, "It's okay, Keefe. We all know she loves you too."

"Yeah, ye- wait what? You do?" He was so shocked, he almost knocked the chair over.

"Keefe, it's so obvious. The way she cared for you when you were unconscious, when she looks into your eyes and comforts you, she loves you so much."

"So everyone knows. Great." Keefe slumped down in his chair.

"Well, not everyone. Fitz is just about as clueless as she is."

Keefe tore a hand through his hair. "No, not Fitz! Do you see the way he looks at her? Like she's a wounded animal that he can save? If she think she loves him, he'll hurt her, Biana, I know he will."

"Yes, Keefe, I've seen it too, but we have to be careful. This is my brother we're talking about." She pointed a finger at Keefe. "And your best friend."

"Yes, I know. But in all honesty, I would stop being his friend to keep Sophie safe."

Biana laughed as if she had shared an inside joke. "Yeah, and I'd stop being his sister too!" She punched Keefe lightly in the arm. He laughed too.

"Okay, thanks for the chat. I really needed to share that with someone other than my snooping bodyguard." He glared in Ro's direction. She had pried all of the information out of him almost as soon as she had been appointed as his bodyguard, and she regularly checked up on the situation.

"Haha. Well, I'll give you some advice. Go to Tam. Tell him the situation. He might be of more help than you think."

"Ugh, Tammy Boy?" Keefe wrinkled his nose.

"Careful, he is my boyfriend."

"Right. Okay, fine. Maybe I will."
