Sophie's POV:

Sophie sucked in a breath. Keefe loved her? She looked up at him, and saw his ice blue eyes pool into little tear puddles. And now....he was crying? Sophie knew that she loved him, but as a friend. At least.....that's what she thought. She realized she hadn't said anything yet, but she didn't need to.

She reached up to his face, and wiped the tears off his cheeks. She knew what her heart wanted to do, but her head wasn't so sure. She had just broken up with Fitz and she was still dealing with those feelings. But this time, her heart one.

She leaned forward and pressed her lips to his. At first, he froze, and she wondered if she had made a mistake. But then, he kissed her back, and she couldn't help but feel as if this was meant to be. It felt so right, nothing like those awkward moments with Fitz. That was the moment when Sophie realized how wrong she had been. How she had never really loved Fitz, it had always been Keefe. They pulled away, staring into each other's eyes.

"Umm," Keefe started, "that wasn't, like, a Dex thing, right?"

Sophie laughed and said softly, "No, that was for real. I love you too, Keefe."

Keefe sat up a little straighter and made an oh with his mouth.

"Can I ask how long you knew that you loved me?" Sophie couldn't help it, she was just so curious.

"Since we flew with Silveny together, when you had your abilities reset for the first time."

"Wow. Okay." Sophie couldn't believe how oblivious she had been.

"Wait, what about Fitz?" Keefe said this as if it had just dawned on him.

Sophie took a deep breath. She was ready for this question and she knew exactly how she wanted to answer it. "Well, I think I liked Fitz with my head. He was the first elf I had ever met, and I think that thought just stuck. It probably helped that I thought he was handsome."

Sophie looked at Keefe and blushed, but he didn't seem fazed by it.

"But I love you with my heart. And that is much better than anything I could have with Fitz." As soon as she said this, Sophie realized how true it was. She could never love Fitz as anything more than a friend and fellow cognate. "Fitz and I will always have a different kind of relationship because-"

"Let me guess, WE'RE COGNATES!!!" Keefe interrupted her.

"Well, yeah, that's what I was going to say. But we couldn't ever have a romantic relationship." Sophie felt like a huge weight had been lifted off of her shoulders. She had always loved Keefe, but she had never acknowledged it.

She looked over to Keefe and smiled. "So I guess the ball will be our first date?"

Keefe laughed and took her hand, sending sparks up her arm. "I guess so."

He leaned toward her and kissed her forehead, resting his chin on her head. She wrapped her arms around his neck, and rested her head on his chest.

Sophie murmured, "Thank you, Keefe. You helped me realize something that I couldn't realize myself."

"No problem at all, Foster. It's what I do." He removed his chin from her hair and flashed her a cocky smirk.

"Don't make me regret this." She playfully slapped his shoulder, but her grin showed she wasn't mad.

"Oh, you're on!" He got up and tagged her. "You're it!"

Sophie looked at him with a confused face. "How do you know what 'tag' is? That's a human thing."

Keefe sheepishly scratched his head. "I might have read a bunch of books on human stuff so I would understand your references. Now we can have a conversation without you getting flustered about human stuff that I didn't know about. And I have a photographic memory, so that helped too." Keefe was ranting, and it was adorable.

"You did that for me?"

"Yes, I did it for you. Don't need to sound so surprised, Foster. Now I'm gonna run and you won't be able to catch me!!!!" he said the last part in a sing-song voice.

She sighed, but chased after him.

After an hour of running, they were all sweaty and tired, so they collapsed on the grass.

"Wow, you're really fast." Sophie slumped down a further and wiped the sweat from her forehead.

"What can I say, I'm the mighty Keefester!"

"Don't flatter yourself." Sophie scoffed. He did not need anyone else feeding his ego.

Keefe pouted, and used his best baby voice. "Pweaasseeee..... Just admit I'm awesome."

"Not a chance." Sophie was trying so hard to hide her smile.

"Fine, at least the Hair, then." Keefe ran a hand through his meticulously styled locks.

Sophie gave in. "Yes, the Hair is awesome. Now are you done? I'm hungry, I want a snack. Or maybe Edaline and Grady will let you stay for dinner?" She looked over at Keefe and saw his scared expression. "On second thought, let's only ask Edaline.

"Sure, let's go inside." Keefe took her hand and they ran down the hill together, not caring who saw them.

................................................................................................................................................................

"Thank you for dinner, Mrs. Ruewen." Keefe said, after clearing all of the plates.

"It's really not a problem, Keefe. And please, call me Edaline." She gave him a warm, motherly smile.

Sophie took his arm, and ignored Grady clearing his throat.

"Is it okay if we go upstairs?" She turned to Edaline, who was trying to convince Grady to relax.

"Of course, Keefe is welcome to stay overnight if he wishes. I'll conjure some blankets, just let me know."

"Thanks mom! You're the best!" Sophie hugged her mom quickly, then ran upstairs with Keefe.

Sophie sat down on her bed and patted the fabric beside her, indicating for Keefe to sit down.

Keefe gave her a sideways glance. "I thought stinky boys had to sit on the floor."

"True, but you're my exception."

Keefe sat down beside her and put his arm around her shoulders.

"Sophie, will you be my girlfriend?"

"Of course, Keefe. What else did you think I was going to be?" She rested her head on his shoulder.

Little did she know, Edaline was at the door, watching the two appreciate each other.

And so, the beginning of a new adventure began. An adventure where Sokeefe was inevitable.

Wow. I totally didn't know where I was going with this, but I guess it turned out. I want to make a sequel, that has more of a plot including the Neverseen, but this was just a love story. Thank you to everyone who has read this story, and please comment or message me to let me know what you thought of it.
