It had been a week since she had met him, her unknown stranger. Where had he disappeared all of a sudden? "Get ready for the party tonight!" Her father called out again, making her groan, he and his parties. Navratri had began, today was the first day so like every year, this year too would be a grand function in the mansion. She sighed, she was in no mood for this, "Aren't you excited?" She looked up hearing her step mother, Kaveri's voice, her heart thudded in her chest as she sat up straighter, if she was here, it definitely wasn't a good news. "Wear this tonight, after all, tonight you will be engaged to Vishal. " Her mother said, a smug tone in her voice as she looked at Ruhi, who felt like her world was slowly crumpling, she found it difficult to breath, her throat tightened as tears burned in her eyes as breathing came in short pants.
She watched with tears in her eyes as her mother kept the dress and jewelry on her bed, a smirk on her face as she left, closing the door behind her. Her eyes fell on the lehnga and the jewelry, tears trailing down her cheeks as a sharp burn spread through her chest, her legs gave out as she broke down crying.
The decorations were done to the perfection, as countries best musicians sung and played, a grand engagement, a dream for any girl but as Ruhi walked down the steps, she felt no happiness, just nothing.
"Attention please!" Her father's voice rang throughout the place making everyone look at him, all the rich and influential people of India and foreign stood around, smiles on their faces as their eyes looked up to her father.
"Today I am the happiest as my daughter is to be engaged with Vishal Maheshwari, the most sorted out bachelor of the country. I just want to say, Vishal welcome to the family!" He exclaimed out loud making everyone smile as Vishal smirked raising his glass of champagne to the man, humans really were idiots, stupid gullible beings.
"Ladies and gentlemen, welcome my darling daughter, Ruhi!" Ruhi's father exclaimed as he turned to look at the huge golden staircase that led to the hall, she looked beautiful, her beauty was out of the world, people were mesmerized by her divine beauty, she wore a dark lehnga with golden intricate embroidery as diamonds glistened in her neck and ears, people forgot to breath, their eyes focused on the one girl who shined like a diamond in the dark room, she descended slowly, a natural grace and regality being portrayed through her every move, mesmerized they all forgot for a moment to breath, a beauty like her could exist was too difficult to believe until you saw her, she was outwardly. A stunned silence filled the room, her elegance had them all in a trace.
Vishal smiled as he moved forward, holding his hand out for her to take, her soft hand was placed in his as he guided her to the center of the room. People's eyes following her, where ever she went, too afraid to blink that if they did she might disappear.
"Can we have the rings please!" Ruhi's father called out, a huge smile on his face. Ruhi hadn't looked up from the floor, her eyes brimming with tears, the rings were brought by a man dressed in white, her breath hitched as she shut her eyes, a tear rolled down her cheek, "Arya." She called to him in a pained whisper, would he come? She wasn't sure, but she really hoped he will.
Vishal picked the ring, "Give him your hand. " Her father commanded as he glared at her, her hand trembled as she lifted it and kept in Vishal's, her heart thudded in her chest as she looked at him, terror zipping through her heart as she watched his other hand that held the ring move towards her finger, just as he was about to put the ring loud music began to play making every turn around, melodic and calm, confusion seeped through everyone as the ring slipped through Vishal's hand and rolled down on the floor. Her heart thudded in her chest as a mesmerizing male voice sung the words making her heart thud violently but now instead of fear there was anticipation.
