It had been maybe a couple days since the incident happened, and Zak had started to distance himself from his friends. He didn't ignore them, he just didn't insert himself into conversations like usual, and responded with short phrases. He hadn't talked to Dave, completely unsure of when the taller boy would be up to speaking to him again. It was extremely awkward when they sat next to each other in class. Zak was ignored, which was understandable. Dave wasn't speaking to anyone anymore, why should he talk to the person who lied to him?
Everytime Zak tried to say something, his throat became dry and he just couldn't make out any words. He was stupid. What genuinely worried him most was that they'd never be able interact again.
It was the end of the day at school when Vincent and Darryl approached him.
"Muffin? Are... are you doing okay?" Darryl asked, worry in his voice.
"I'm fine, Darryl." He muttered, sighing and walking away. He knew he shouldn't be doing this to his best friends, but he simply didn't feel like talking to anybody.
As he was heading to his house, he noticed Dave a bit ahead of him. Oh, yeah. They lived next to each other. He hesitated, before attempting to say something. Anything that could possibly fix what had happened.
"Dave, I..." Zak's voice cracked. He didn't know what to say.
Dave stopped when he heard Zak. He bit his lip, for the first time a little anxious.
"I'm sorry Zak, I just need some time." He said quietly. You could tell he was no longer mad. Just hurt, and it pained Zak to see that.
Dave left and returned to his house, and Zak only stood there. He hated being the reason someone was upset.
When he opened the door to his house, he entered his room and checked his phone to see some texts from Darryl and Vincent.

Vincent
hey zak, i know you probably won't respond to this, but uh- yeah. could you talk to us? we get you're upset, but that doesn't mean you have to be short with us

Darryl
Yeah, muffin. We really miss you! :c

Zak
im really sorru ive been ignoting you guyd like this hjJHSHS

Vincent
it's okay, we just wanted to check up on you.

Zak
its jsut been wierd the past coiple days

Darryl
I understand that, I'm sorry this happened :(

Zak
nononononoon its not your fauly i shouldnt hace lied in the fiest place

Vincent
well, i can't say i disagree there, but you still don't deserve this

Zak
i thinj im jsut goinh to take a nap

And with that, he shut off his phone. But he didn't take a nap like he said he was going to, trying to sleep was useless. He just stayed in his room, unsure of what to do anymore. He didn't think he would ever, truly be able to forgive himself.
