Dave obviously didn't like the fact that Zak wouldn't leave, but it didn't seem like he had the energy to protest.
"You.. should probably go home. It's raining, and you're going to get sick if you stay out here much longer."
"I'll be fine going alone." Dave muttered under his breath, standing up.
"Dave, I'm not going to keep staying away from you like this. Ignoring each other won't get us anywhere." Zak replied firmly, intent on not going away. He was really getting tired of the awkwardness between them. He wanted to solve it, and now was a chance to. They'd both calmed down enough to be willing to listen.
Once Dave had opened the door to his house, his mother noticed Zak.
"Oh, hello Zak! We haven't seen you in a while." She spoke with a smile, before turning to her son.
"Dave, are you okay? You're soaked."
"I'm fine." He reassured her.
After a bit, Dave got into dry clothes and the two were now sitting on his bed. It was a long time before one of them spoke up.
"I-Dave, I'm sorry." Zak mumbled weakly. He didn't know what he could say that would make the situation any better. Explaining would probably be good.
When Dave didn't respond, Zak went on.
"When you did tell me at first, I didn't have feelings for you. I just didn't want to hurt you, so I lied. I know I hurt you even worse by lying, and I do apologize for that. A-As time went by, I really did start liking you. It wasn't a lie anymore."
It was silent for a while. Zak prepared himself for Dave to not want to talk to him again. There wasn't any proof of him actually having feelings for him too, and he just admitted that he lied. He understood if Dave didn't believe him.
"Zak, I want you to promise me that you aren't lying again. I won't be mad if you don't like me, I just need to know."
It caught Zak off guard, as Dave had been quiet for a while, but he responded with no hesitation.
"I do like you, Dave. I promise. I understand if you don't believe me, but I really do feel the same wa-"
Zak was pulled into a close hug. It was abrupt, but it seemed like neither of them cared.
"I believe you, nerd."
They sat there for a moment longer, before pulling away.
"You want to play Minecraft?"
Zak started laughing.
"What?"
"You don't want to?" Dave pretended to sound sad.
"No, no, I mean, why not? It was just random." Zak said in between chuckles.
"Talking about your feelings is revolting. I'd much rather play a block game."
"For once, I actually agree with you."
So, they did. They stayed with each other until 8:00pm, which was the time Zak decided to go home so his mother didn't think he had just gotten murdered.
He'd definitely have a lot to explain to Darryl and Vincent. He just hoped they weren't asleep.
Actually, what was he thinking? They never slept. He'd be fine.
