Mile's POV

My heart beat went crazy as I reached for Hazel. I didn't know what had gotten into me inside the restaurant, but now I knew what I was doing. Her face broke my heart, she was tearing up and it had been my fault. Even though she looked sad all I could think of was her lips. They looked so delicate and I couldn't control myself anymore. I leaned in and kissed her, at first she was too shocked to do anything but soon she relaxed and kissed me back.

"Hazel Grace Lancaster, I think I'm in love with you." I whispered softly and pressed my forehead against hers.

"Miles..." she was at a loss for words and I laughed. Me, Miles Halter, had made a girl like Hazel bite her tongue. I cupped her face gently and wiped away her tears with my thumb.

"I'm so sorry," Hazel laughed with a touch of relief and a pinch of nervousness, "I can't handle your damned bi-polar mood swings Miles." I grinned back at her and laughed myself. I had spent all that time focused on whether she liked me or not. But in the end all the pressure came crumbling down on me.

"God hazel I'm so sorry you deserve so much better and I wish I hadn't-" Hazel put her finger to her lips and made a soft hush.

"Get over yourself Miles, or I won't love you anymore." her voice was soft. She got on her tippy toes and gave me a sweet kiss on the cheek. I was shocked for a moment, this girl was driving me mad. Hazel turned away from me swiftly and continued to walk down the street. Being the dumbfounded guy I was I only watched her for awhile. "Come on Miles we're going on an adventure!" Hazel called back to me. I smiled at the sight of her. A sweet girl with an ugly oxygen tank. What a great mix.
