Chapter 44
I woke up the next day after having the most meaningful dream. The key in my back pocket. The key belonged to Harry’s drawer. I got up as fast as I could, and unlocked the drawer. A note and a small leather box. The letter was in my hands I was afraid to read it. After a few minutes of struggling whether I should read it or not, I did.
“Dear Louis,
Well for starters, how should I put this. I’m sorry. I’m sorry for leaving you like that. You made me terribly sad. But you’re my happiness and you’re my sadness. That may not make sense but I lay on the floor and think ‘wow I didn’t know it was possible for one person to make me this happy but at the same time I know at any given moment you could break my heart into a million pieces’. And I’d forgive you. Because you’re so important to me and your happiness is more important than my sadness. I love you Lou. You’re perfect to me. I wish I could put into words how beautiful you really are and how when you smile it lights up all the stars in the universe and when you say you love me every single piece of my scattered existence seems to come together, and how your eyes sparkle brighter than the light shines on a bright day and you make me feel so complete. But I don’t think words will ever be able to compare to how lovely you are being mine. I know you’re crying now. Stop crying. Stop crying and kiss me you fool.”
What had I done? I wanted to be with him forever? I couldn’t. I could. I opened the box. A ring, with a diamond, tears were flooding from my eyes. I ran to the other room and put on my best tux and placed the ring on my ring finger. I grabbed a chair and a rope and I ran as fast as I could to my car. Time wasn’t to be wasted. Time was precious and I had none.
Running to Harry’s grave I tied the rope on the tree right next to Harry’s tomb stone. I stood on top of the tomb stone and slowly placed my head in the loop of the rope.
“And I’d marry you Harry,” I said as I removed my feet from the stone. “Because it rhymes.”
