Chapter 7

“Your brother? Why is he working for Canary?” I asked.

Kira looked down. “When the kingdom was divided my brother and I lived in this area of Minery. When Canary took this land she gave everyone a choice, to work for her, or live here under her rule. I tried to runaway, but she took me captive. I have been here ever since, and my brother Ryelan has been working for her just to keep me safe. She doesn’t know that he is my brother, and she never will know.”

“Oh, I’m so sorry.” It was silent for a minute. “Kiraley, I promise that I will get us out of here, Kretter knows what I am planning and he will get us out of here.”

“You don’t look like Kretter’s daughter though, you don’t even look like you are from our world.” Kiraley said.

I nodded. “I have been sick you know, in the morning I will be feeling better. I was hoping you could help me with my little problem?”

She thought for a minute then got up. She retrieved a box from under her cot on the other side of the cage and came back. She pulled out a beautiful golden brush. “This may be crazy, but I hope it works.” She started brushing my hair and I she smiled.

“What?” I asked.

“It’s working.” She said. She brushed through all of my hair then looked back into the box. She pulled out a small vial of silver dust.

“What is that?”

“Fairy dust.” She put some in her hand then blew it in my face.

It got into my eyes and my throat; I started coughing and rubbed my eyes. “Why on earth did you do that?” I asked annoyed.

“You may not want to say that here.” She said and held up a mirror in front of my face.

I gasped. “Wow. That is incredible.” I stared into a reflection that didnt look like my own. The girl in the mirror had the same face shape as my own, but where my blue eyes should have been were purple and emerald eyes. My hair now looked like I took a shower in a rainbow, with streaks of purple, blue, green, and gold now covered the brown in my hair.

“Now you look more like Kretter.” Kiraley said and sat back.

A guard came to the bars and opened the door and set two plates on the floor, then closed the door and left.

Kiraley went over and picked them up and brought them back to the bed. I looked down at the odd food arrangements on the plate and picked up what looked like blue lettuce and took a bite.

I smiled. “The food here is so strange.” I said and laughed. Kiraley smiled and nodded.

After we ate we talked for a while longer, she told me about the man she loved once upon a time, before the rulers took over, she told me that they were going to have a baby. I started thinking that I would have loved having Kiraley as a sister.

I yawned and laid back and she yawned as well.

“We should get some sleep, I can tell you more in the morning.” She said. I got under the covers and she kissed my forehead.

“Hey Kira?”

She looked back at me. “Yes?”

“Thank you, for everything.”

“Of course my dear.”

I stared t the top of the cage for about an hour until I finally fell asleep again.

I was sitting on top of one of the castle walls, high above the ground. The moon shone brightly and the air was crisp and fresh and smelled like Autumn. King Myron stood next to me.
