"So tell me Joel, what happened out there?" I asked, changing to a new page in my notebook.
Joel sank on the couch, and after taking a heavy breath, he started to speak.
"It was all going great man, I had him. That damn hero was in my grasp, my guards held him in front of me."
"You monologued again didn't you?" I scribbled on my notebook, a disappointed look on my face.
"No! We got over that months ago!" He shifted in his seat, sitting up.
"Tell me then." I dropped the notebook to the table, next to a few guns.
"See, we've been fighting for years. I told you that I had this master plan right? To destroy the city?"
I nodded.
"It was working, I captured him. That vile piece of heroic crap. He was the only thing in my way for these years, always beating me." Joel took one of his guns from the table, and licked the tip of it. "This gun was in his head, but killing him wasn't enough. I needed to show him that after all those years of loss that I would actually win. So i took him to my base and told him my plan so he would die knowing he failed to prevent me from taking the lives of the people he loves."
I threw my pen, stabbing Joel's hand.
"You're telling me, You could've killed him and your evil plan would have succeeded? But you didn't.
Joel looked down in shame. "Yes. He escaped and destroyed everything. I don't even have a base anymore, I'm homeless."
"I see." I stood up, having heard enough. "There is a free room upstairs, stay here till you find a place if you want. I'm giving you homework to deal with your... issues. Kill three people without saying a word this week."
"THREE??? Come o-"
"Not up for discussion."
I walked towards the door, knowing I had business to attend to.
Looking back at Joel, a question sprang to mind.
"Would you mind telling me his name?"
"Whose name?"
"The hero."
When I closed the door behind me, I knew I had my next target. I clutched at the gun in my holster.
