Kira was pacing in her room. Would her parents like Lucy? Would they be friendly? Would they embarrass her? It was nerve racking. Her parents already asked about how they met, and Kira gave full detail. She seriously thought that her parents were more excited than she was. Kira was thinking over everything when the doorbell rang. Kira jumped out of her thoughts and ran downstairs. Kira tried to reach the door before her parents, but she was too late. Kira groaned, knowing that she was going to embarrassed even before dinner began. She ran to the door and heard her parents bombarding Lucy with questions, and she looked nervous.
"Mom, dad, leave Lucy alone!" Her parents backed up, still clearly excited about Lucy coming over. Kira apologized for them. "I'm sorry about that, Lucy. They're just excited that I have a friend over. I don't usually have friends over." Actually, Kira never had a friend over because she never had a friend, but she wasn't ready to tell that to Lucy.
Lucy laughed and shrugged it off. "It's no problem. If you were coming over to my house, my parents would've done the same, but it's still scary anyway."
Kira laughed and brought Lucy inside. She commented that the house was lovely to Kira's parents, making them fall in love with her.
"Oh Lucy, you're such a lady!" Kira rolled her eyes as her mom complimented Lucy. Lucy noticed and laughed, already having fun in the Tamleroy Household. Kira's mom brought out the dinner, which was lasagna, and everyone ate every bite. Kira thought that her mom had never baked anything as delicious, besides eggs and bacon.
Once they were done, Lucy thanked Kira's mom and ran upstairs, with Kira right behind her.
Lucy plopped down on Kira's bed. "That was delicious! Does your mom always serve food that amazing?" Lucy asked Kira, making her laugh. Lucy was becoming a great friend.
"No, I think she was trying harder since you were over."
"Well, in that case, I need to come over more often."
Kira smiled as she had an idea, "Hey, how about instead of wasting our time here, why don't we go out in the forest? I went in the other day and found an awesome clearing to relax in. I bet I can find my way back."
Lucy jumped off the bed and started heading out the door. "Sounds like fun! I like a good walk in the forest." Kira followed her and asked her mom if they could go out. She agreed as long as they were back home before seven and didn't talk to any strangers.
"Don't worry mom, We'll be fine!" Kira shouted as her and Lucy started walking into the forest. Lucy, acting as her usual self, wouldn't stop talking. She was a chatterbox telling stories and jokes, which was okay with Kira, since she was a listener. She was too focused on listening to Lucy to realize where they were going, and eventually stumbled upon the clearing. Lucy noticed this first, and said, "Woah, is this what you were talking about?"
Kira looked around, and it looked exactly the same as before. She nodded, loving the quietness of it.
"It's pretty cool, but really quiet. Is that why you like it so much?"
Kira nodded again, and Lucy pulled her to the other side of the clearing, where a river was flowing. Strange, Kira thought, I don't remember that here before.
"Check this out! It's a waterfall!" Lucy splashed in the water below the waterfall, which was about thirty feet high. "C'mon!"
Kira thought about it, and decided it couldn't hurt to play in the water. She also rolled up her jeans and followed Lucy. The waterfall crashing was loud, covering up whatever Kira or Lucy said, so they just splashed around, kicking water at each other. After a while, Lucy motioned for Kira to follow her. They got out of the water, and walked up the hill to the top part of the waterfall.
"Let's hang out near the edge of the waterfall!" Lucy said as the waterfall got a tad bit quieter. Kira wasn't big on the idea.
"We could get hurt," Kira mumbled. She didn't want to go home to her mom with scratches all over her body, but Lucy just pouted.
"Please? You'll be fine, I've done this loads of times!"
Kira debated as Lucy pleaded, and eventually gave in. She walked in the water, realizing the rocks were more slippery than the rocks below the waterfall. She had to be careful.
"See? It's not too bad. Just enjoy it!" Lucy laughed and kicked some water around. Kira realized Lucy was right and loosened up. They were having a great time, not paying attention to anything else, when Kira's watch buzzed. She looked at it, and noticed it was six thirty.
"Aw man!" Lucy complained, "Is it time to go already?" Kira nodded, also disappointed. She was having too much fun.
"We have to go, or my mom will yell at us. Come on," Kira took a step, and slipped. Almost falling over the side of the waterfall, Kira caught herself.
"Kira! Are you alright? You almost fell over! You scared me," Lucy took a deep breath, and Kira's heart was pounding.
"We better get out of here before someone gets injured seriously." Kira tried to stand up, but she must've twisted her ankle while falling.
"Oww!" Kira exclaimed, as she lost footing once more, this time tumbling over the edge of the waterfall.
Lucy started screaming as Kira tumbled with the water. Kira was too shocked to do anything as she fell to hit the rocks at the bottom. She would surely be in the hospital for months. Kira couldn't do anything as she drew closer to the bottom except close her eyes. She waited for the most painful landing, but it never came. Time seemed to slow down just for her, but the longer Kira thought she was falling, the more convinced she was that time was slowing down.
----------------------------
Kira could hear Lucy laughing. Why was she laughing? Kira had fallen over the edge, and that was not something to laugh about. She opened her eyes to find herself standing once again at the top of the waterfall. How was this possible? The last thing she remembered was that she was falling over the edge. How could she be here again? Lucy stopped laughing and splashing water when she saw Kira with her pale expression.
"Kira, what's wrong? You look like you just saw a ghost." Lucy had concerned etched on her face.
"I-I'm fine," Kira stammered, clearly not telling the truth. Lucy could tell that as well, but shrugged it off since Kira didn't want to tell. Kira heard a buzzing sound coming from her watch, and checked the time. It said six thirty.
"Aw man," Lucy repeated the same words she said a couple minutes earlier, but apparently that had never happened. "Is it time to go already?" She got out of the water, and Kira made sure she safely followed her. All of this was really strange. She didn't even have the pain in her foot from twisting it.
"Kira, are you sure you're okay?" Lucy made sure, and Kira nodded. There was no way that anyone was going to believe any of what just happened, for she couldn't believe it herself. What had just happened?
