Theodosia's P.O.V.*
Yesterday was day 1, of the arrangement. Philip had taken me out to his garden for a romantic date, which had been absolutely amazing. But we already knew that we were in love we had to prove it to our parents. We had to prove that we loved each other and that we could get married, and would be happy together.
So I threw out the idea of having a picnic. So that's what we were doing. We were going to be having the picnic, in my back yard. It wasn't as big as Philip's but it certainly was large enough for my family which was only my father, me, Philip, and his parents.
We told our parents that Philip and I would plan the whole thing with no help, to show that we could be a functional couple, so here I was at 12 pm, baking with Philip in my kitchen. We had started at around 9 am and we were nearly done, leaving us enough time to seat up the backyard. My father left the house for work leaving us alone to get ready for the picnic, at 1 pm.
Philip was currently sat at the table currently cutting vegetables for the salad. His curly hair was once again tied, back, as he held the vegetable knife with precision. He was wearing black breeches, black buckled boots, a frilly white shirt with a black buttoned waistcoat on top.
His long blue silk coat was hanging off of the back of the chair. I smiled watching him carefully pick up the tomatoes, he had just cut into the salad bowl.
I stretched my arms letting go of the spoon that I had been using to stir some batter. I was wearing a light pink caraco over a long white skirt with a petticoat underneath, with my body wave hair, tied into a simple french braid. I smiled at the back of Philips's head. I still couldn't believe that he might actually end up being mine!
I walked up behind him as he put the knife down on the cutting board. I wrapped my arms his neck loosely as I placed a soft kiss on the top of his head. I could seriously get used to this. Philip sighed contently placing a hand on my arms, gently smiling up at me.
"How's the cake coming along?" He asked with a smile.
"It's alright. How's the salad?" I asked smiling at him.
"Great," Philip responded leaving us in complete silence.
But in a silence that I could stand not to like the type of silence that made you want to scream 'someone please start talking!' But the kind of silence that you didn't mind once bit the kind of comfortable silence that was only ever comfortable with someone you truly loved.
"I have to go back to the cake," I whispered kissing Philip's head one more time before turning back to the counter to continued stirring.
"If you say so m'lady," Philip said laughing as I returned to stirring the batter.
I was currently making a simple vanilla cake for dessert. But for the main, lunch we had cooked corn, with steak, beef stew, and salad. It wasn't much but Philip and I had agreed that it was perfect. I finished stirring the batter quickly, pouring it into the cake pan. I then carefully put it into the iron oven, making sure that there was still enough wood in it before shutting the door to let the cake cook.
I turned around to look at the table all the food was already ready except for the cake, Philip placed the ready bowl of salad beside the other stuff. I already made the icing for the cake, so all we had left to do now was set up.
"Let's go outside!" I said taking Philip's hand running him outside into the yard.
Philip laughed joining me in picking up and open the foldable tables. Two for people to sit at, and one for food. He placed the tables cloths on them while I pulled the chairs up the table's sides. Once that was ready, I headed back inside to find the cake which was finally ready.
I sat at the table for fifteen minutes with the windows in the kitchen open, letting the cake cool down. Then I began to cover the warm cake with white icing. Once I was done I piped little drops of icing around the rim on the top of the cake. I turned towards the clock. It was 12:40. Our parents would be here very soon.
Philip came out from the backyard picking up the large plate of steaks, and corn out onto the food table outside. I picked up the salad, bowl, and beef stew in my arms taking the outside placing them beside the other foods. Philip hurriedly placed the cake in the refrigerator, while I took the pitcher of cold water outside. I then placed paper cups, and plates, beside the plastic forks, knives, and spoons, at the end of the food table. Everything seemed ready for our parents.
And hopefully, they'd like it.
