Jack's POV

My heart hammered as I reached into my jacket pocket, looking for something.

I breathed a sigh of relief when I felt it, the smell velvet box that contained the ring I'd saved up for months to buy.

"Don't worry, she's going to say yes." Davey urged from beside me. Katherine nodded, holding onto his arm.

"She loves you, Jack. Are you ready?" She asked, worriedly examining me. I could understand the worry, as my nerves could probably pass as a fever right now.

Face flushed? Check.

Sweating a bit? Check.

Shaking? Check.

Nevertheless, the only illness I had was anxiety. Tonight was the night I'd propose to my girlfriend of 7 years, and the love of my life.

(y/n) (l/n).

We were having a meetup with our friend group from high school, as we'd all kept in touch. Everyone had come into town for this.

Proposals had become a big thing in our group. After Davey had done so for Katherine 3 years back in a private garden, the boys had demanded that all future proposals either be filmed or have everyone present.

Nobody could pass up watching their friends getting engaged.

I closed my eyes, sighing. It was finally time, tonight was the night.

Spot and Race owned an Italian restaurant together, and we had all rented the roof for tonight's get together. All of us that lived in NYC were off work, even (y/n), who had called in to have her understudy perform tonight, and the long distance folks had flown in.

Despite everyone being here, nobody besides the Jacobs and the joint-owners of the place knew what was going on. For all they knew, it was a fancy get together and an excuse to dress nicely.

I told (y/n) to meet me, since I had things to do beforehand and wanted her to surprise me with how good she looked.

She always surprised me, but that was besides the point. She had a talent for being effortlessly breathtaking.

I headed up to the roof, the married couple behind me. I opened the door, waving as the three of us were greeted by everyone.

I sat down at the table, the spot next to me saved for my gorgeous girlfriend. All the couples sat together, some of which had paired up with other group members, and some had met people outside the group and brought them along.

We made small talk, with me concealing my nerves decently well. I heard the door shut behind me, and turning to see (y/n) in all her glory.

I stood, pulling out the chair beside me for her. She laughed, coming to give me a quick peck on the cheek before sitting. I pushed her in and sat, taking in her appearance.

She wore a black dress with a sweetheart neckline and three-quarter length sleeves, black heels, and a silver heart locket. I'd given it to her for our first anniversary, and it contained two photos of us, one at homecoming and the other at our senior prom.

The evening continued with playful banter but I could tell (y/n) sensed my nerves. Eventually it was time, so I stood, gathering everyone's attention. My heart hammered and my mouth felt like it was filled with cotton, but I continued. Too late to turn back now.

"Thank you, everyone, for coming to this dinner. I've had a lovely evening with you all, and I'm glad we've all stayed so close for so many years. But I'd like to extend special thanks to (y/n), the love of my life." I couple people awwwed as I took her hand, but I heard gasps as I got down on one knee, my eyes never leaving hers. The depths of (e/c) were mesmerizing, and wide with shock. I pulled out the little velvet box, and began to speak.

"Thank you, (y/n), for being the best girlfriend I can imagine. You are my favorite person, and make every day better and better. You are my sun, my moon, and every star in the sky. You are the grass, and the trees, and the wind. You're the ocean as well as the sand. You're everything to me. I never thought I could find a love half as amazing as you, and I never want to let you go. Not only are you a successful broadway star and a passionate friend, but an amazing lover and the girl of my dreams. I want to be able call you my wife just as badly as I want you to call me your husband. So, (y/n) (l/n), will you marry me?" I spoke slowly and carefully, watching as tears flooded her eyes. She nodded, and I could see the smile shining through her tears.

"Yes! A million times yes!" She exclaimed, jumping into my arms. I held her, rubbing her back lovingly. I was almost deaf to the enormous cheers around me, engulfing the two of us.

We pulled away and I slipped the ring onto her finger, watching lovingly as she admired it. It was very simple, just a silver band with a small black stone, but I loved it and knew she would too.

I nearly cried seeing the tears on her face, but instead pulled her into a loving kiss, pouring the passion I felt for her into it and ignoring our friends.

I was going to marry the love of my life, the soon-to-be (y/n) Kelly.
