The Mortal

A prophecy tells me my future and that's not good.

Now I was the cause of an emergency. Okay great and then what ? I’ll have to save the world or something like that ? I just wanted to know what my place of birth look like ! I was still thinking about how unlucky I was when Leah started walking to the Big House to meet Chiron
« Come on » she said « Come with us »
« First who is Chiron ? And second what have I done to deserve that ?! »
« In the right order : Chiron is the centaur you met a few minutes ago and I don’t know. Seriously some of us are very unlucky but we don’t know why so stop complaining and walk faster »
Wow. Okay. I think I deserved that. I said nothing more during the rest of the walk but I was still very upset. On our way I noticed that some people were training near the armory and I remembered that I didn’t have any fighting skills. I’ve practiced fencing for five years but I was almost sure that demigods didn’t fight like fencers. And that was for the best I thought because I don’t think monster like the chimera I’ve seen before would respect fencing rules. But for me that wasn’t so cool because I was going to have to train a lot if I wanted to survive on a quest. At least hopefully I would get time before my first quest so I can train a lot.
We crossed the river and arrived near the Big House. Chiron was waiting for us with a red haired young woman by his side. She had green eyes and was a bit older than me. Behind them there was eighteen other persons that were talking. I was really impressed. It was like a war council. The young woman noticed our arrival and approached us.
« Thank you Kyle. You can leave us now. » she said to the guy who brought us here.
She turned back at me.
« Hello. My name is Rachel. I’m the Oracle of Delphi. Let me explain why you’re here before you go to them » she said pointing the other people around Chiron « If you’re here it’s because I’ve had a vision. A new prophecy it seems. And you’re concerned. »
« I’m concerned ? But I don’t even know who I am ! »
« Oh yes you know it and you know it well. And here is the problem »
She started walking to the council signaling me to follow her.
« It seems like we don’t have much time so I’ll make it fast. The prophecy says that the latest come shall go to find magic itself and find a way to restore its greatness before its greatest enemy shows up again. You’re the last person to arrive to the camp so it seems like you’re the person mentionned in the prophecy. That’s why you’re here. Come with me now we have to discuss the conditions of your quest. »
I followed her and we approached people that were there and I noticed that Chiron had disappeared. I didn’t notice that they were already having an intense discussion before we arrived.
« We don’t even know who he is ! We can’t let him go on a quest like that ! » said a young girl
And I have to say that I did agree with her. But no one cares about my opinion so…
« We don’t have any choice » said a blond man « We can’t ignore the prophecy »
A woman with dark hair and green eyes was looking at me.
« Maybe we can send someone else ? »
« You know that’s not how it works Lou » said Rachel « We have to trust him. And as a demigod he deserves our trust in fact »
Chiron reappeared with a preoccupied look on his face.
« It’s not that simple » he said with a sigh « It’s never simple when it comes to Gods »
« Can you explain ? » Rachel asked
« I’ve thought about the content of your prophecy. Magic itself it seems like it means the incarnation of magic. Hecate. So I’ve thought that maybe they were a link between Hecate and this young man » he said pointing at me
« It would explain why you were attracted by Hecate’s cabin. There could be a bound between you two ! » Leah said interrupting Chiron
« That was what I thought too but let me finish please miss Blury »
« Oh yeah I’m sorry »
« So I was thinking about that and I sent an Iris message to Hecate to try to join her and ask for advices. I was pretty sure she wasn’t going to answer my call but she did. »
« Wow you’re saying that a god answered an Iris message ? The situation must be really dramatic » said one the people present
« You’re not totally wrong. » he said looking tired of being interrupted « So she answered my call and she was looking preoccupied. I explained the situation and she said that she couldn’t answer my questions like that. She wanted to meet the person mentioned by the prophecy. She said that she was on her way. She will be there in a few minutes. »
I was there since less than a day and I would already meet a god ? It couldn’t be true ! Or at least it wasn’t normal at all. Some of the people around me were there since years and I was sure that they hadn’t meet one. I could say it by their shocked looks. I turned back to Leah.
« It’s not normal to meet a god after a single day in the camp, right ? » I said in a whisper
« Not normal at all. You might be someone special ! »
I wasn’t sure of that. I wasn’t even sure that I was a demigod so how can I be so special ? I mean I wasn’t even claimed and I was pretty sure that I was born from two mortal parents ! And above all I was there since less than a day. I didn’t know if I had powers nor how to fight with an greek sword or a bow. I was pretty sure that the only thing special about me was that I was a new kind of loser.
But it seems like the Gods (or the Universe or the Destiny, call it like you want) had decided otherwise. Chiron interrupted the thread of my thoughts.
« She’ll meet you in the House. Go ahead and wait for her. »
I started to walk to the House when I felt an intense power irradiating from it. I can’t say how but I could feel that she was in there.
« And listen carefully. Gods don’t like to repeat. » Chiron added before I entered the House
I knew she was powerful as soon as I saw her. She was a tall and beautiful woman with green eyes and black hair. Or at least she was like that in this form. I couldn’t say a single word.
« Hello Mr Green » she said looking at me « I have to talk to you. »
