A few hours after that we were totally rested. Everyone was full of energy and we were ready to fight.
« Everyone’s ready ? » I asked
« Yes ! Let’s fight ! » Kyle answered
« Guys I don’t want to be this kind of girl but maybe we need a plan. I mean we don’t even know how to go to Memphis. It would be better if we knew what to do, don’t you think ? » Leah said
She was right obviously. I was naive to believe that we just needed to find her and attack head-on to win. She was a powerful sorceress and she had home advantage. We definitely needed to find a plan if we wanted to win. But I wasn’t the best strategist ever. I was quite unable to find a plan all by myself. I needed my companions again for that.
« Do you have an idea ? » I asked
« I have an idea for the travel » Kyle answered
He started to search for something in his bag. After a moment he took out three boxes which looked like shoes boxes. He opened the boxes and I saw flying sneakers. It seemed like everything was possible with Gods.
« This is a gift from my father. I have never met him in fact but those sneakers are a gift to our cabin. »
« You stole them ? » I said
« Not really ! Let’s just say that I borrowed them » he answered with a bright smile « The problem is that I don’t know how long they can make us fly. I don’t think that it can make us fly eternally. That’s why I didn’t suggest to use them earlier »
« That’s no longer a problem I think » I answered « We’re close enough not to worry about it »
« I think too » he answered « But I just wanted to make sure that you were aware of the risk »
I thought that I was not sure he realized what he just said. Aware of the risk ? We were doing a quest that could kill us at anytime so yeah I think we were aware of the risk. And flying with those sneakers was maybe the least dangerous thing we have done recently in fact. But I didn’t tell anything. I didn’t want to sound too brittle.
« Okay we know how to go to Memphis now but we still don’t have a plan. Don’t forget that Lamia has home advantage » leah said
« Yes she’s at home » I answered « But we have the advantage of surprise »
« The advantage of surprise ?! She knows that we are coming ! Maybe she even knows when we’ll be there ! Don’t you remember your dreams ? » Leah answered
Have I already said that I wasn’t the best strategist ?
« I don’t think that she knows when we’ll attack » Kyle said « How could she knows that ? »
« I agree » I said « Maybe if we arrive discreetly ? »
« Maybe » Leah answered « But she’s a powerful witch. I’m not sure that it’ll be enough. Maybe she could feel magic energy like Hecate’s kids did »
« I can try to hide us » I said
« Are you sure that it’ll work ? »
« Not really. But I don’t have any better idea. Maybe you do ? »
She remained silent so I thought that it was a no. I didn’t blame her for doubting our plan. In fact I was doubting my own abilities to hide us. I was pretty sure that it wouldn’t be enough but we didn’t have any other choice. Every minute we spent chatting brought Lamia closer to her goal.
« We still don’t know what we will have to face when we will be there » Leah sighed « It’s the worst plan I’ve ever heard of »
« But we don’t have all the cards in hand. » I answered « So that’s the best plan I can think about. We will have to trust ourselves »
Once again, I was a terribly bad strategist. And it seemed like we were all.
« As long as we’re together… » Kyle started
« Nothing bad can happen » Leah answered « I know »
It seemed like everyone agreed.
« Just a little something » Leah added « When do you think we should attack ? I mean her powers aren’t more powerful during the night, are they ? »
« I don’t know » I answered « But I think so. She’s a daughter of Hecate after all »
« So should we start the fight during the day or not ? Because she would be weaker but you would be too so i don’t know what’s best »
« I think it would be better if we fight when my magic is most powerful. I’m almost sure that she is not going to fight in person directly. We will need to be powerful enough to face her allies and her. And I’m more powerful during the night. »
She looked up at the sky.
« We can’t go now then. It’s too early. We would arrive too soon »
« How can you say that ? » I asked
« I’m literally the daughter of the Sun » she answered
« I know it but I’m still surprised everytime I discover that you have another ability »
We stayed there waiting for Leah to say that we could go. After a few more hours she looked up at the sky again and said :
« Now we can go »
« Just let me hide us » I said
Or at least try I thought but I couldn’t tell it. They trusted me. I focused and let magic energy surround us. I tried to shape it so it could look like the landscape at anytime. I haven’t done anything like that before but I just let my instinct do it.
« We can go » I said « I camouflaged us »
We put on our winged sneakers and went to Memphis.
