You know the fact : a bad news never comes alone. Someone must have already told it to you and you didn’t trust him. I know it because I did the same thing. But this time it was true. We had just survived a harpy attack (that’s the first bad news) and we noticed that our pegasus were gone.
We looked for them for almost 3 hours but didn’t find them. They had simply disappeared. We gathered in a forest.
« It was what she wanted » I said almost groaning
« Of course it is » Kyle answered
« Am I the only one who did not understand ? » Leah asked
« She knew that the harpies wouldn’t be able to kill us. It was just a distraction. She wanted to slow us down so she sent us an occupation and took our pegasus »
« Oh yes I hadn’t seen things like that »
Lamia had made it too easily. We hadn’t seen anything coming. We hadn’t been good on this one. I was still morping when Kyle intervened.
« We have to find another way to go to Memphis »
« Any idea ? Because I don’t have one » I said
« Can’t you use a magic trick ? » Leah asked
« I can’t ! I’m too tired for that and I’m not even sure it would work because the sky is not Hecate’s place »
« So we’re stuck here ? »
« Actually I have an idea » Kyle said « But I’m not sure that it’s a good one »
« At this point even the worst idea would look like a good one ! » I answered
He glanced at Leah.
« Do it ! » she said
He walked toward the road. He said loudly « Stêthi 'Ô hárma diabolês » throwing a golden Drachma on the road. Nothing happened during a minute.
« Are you sure of what you’ve done ? » Leah asked
« Yes. Give them some time » Kyle answered
A couple of seconds after we started to hear wheel noises and a taxi appeared in front of us.
« I prefer to warn you that the Gray sister’s taxi is very special » Kyle said
We came in the taxi and Kyle said « Memphis, Michigan please ».
« Don’t forget the seatbelt » a voice answered
Special wasn’t the term. It was incredibly strange ! The drivers were three sisters who shared just one eyes. An eyes for them three ! Oh yeah and the taxi was magical obviously. It could split in two and drive at an incredible speed. To be honest I thought we were going to die at least three times during the travel.
But it wasn’t the worst. The worst was the cost of the travel ! I saw the counter scroll and it worried me.
« You think we’ll have enough money to pay ? » I whispered
« I don’t have enough money » Leah answered
« Me neither » Kyle added
The problem was that the sisters heard us. We were immediately kicked out of the taxi.
« We don’t work for free ! » the sisters said with one voice
The taxi vanished in front of us.
« It didn’t go so bad » Kyle said
I remained silent and looked around us and noticed that we were close to a lake that I didn’t recognize.
« Someone knows where we are ? » I asked
« I came here with my mother once » Kyle answered « I think it’s the lake St. Clair. We’re not so far from Memphis now ! »
« Not so far ? Like what ? »
« We’re like 15 miles away I think »
Okay that was the best news of the day. And by far ! But I was way too tired to realize it. I’ve used magic many times today and that was exhausting. I truly needed a break to get some sleep.
« Maybe we can stay here for the rest of the night » I said « To get some sleep »
« I definitely need to sleep » Leah answered
« Me too » Kyle said « But someone need to stay awake. Just in case. »
He was right obviously. After the harpies event it was obvious that we couldn’t sleep just like that. It would be way too dangerous.
« Maybe we can take turns, no ? » I asked
« I’ll take the first one » Kyle said
« And I’ll take the following » Leah added
« So I’ll take the last one » I said
« Go to sleep now » Leah said « We’ll need your magic tricks tomorrow so you have to be in fine fettle »
« Try to rest too » I said
I went near the beach and I lay down. I fell asleep immediately. I had horrible dreams. I dreamed about the final fight against Lamia and I saw us loosing. We were surrounded by horrible monsters and we had no chance to survive. Clytius would be resurrected and magic would be destroyed. But the awakening was worse.
