The Mortal

Memphis, here we are !

The travel wasn’t really relaxing. Have you ever tried to fly with little wings hanging from the ankles ? I bet you don’t. Trust me it wasn’t easy. And it was really scary. I thought I was going to die seven or eight times during the travel eventhough it only lasted fifteen minutes. Thats why when I saw memphis in the distance I was incredibly happy. But as soon as we got closer my happiness dissipated. I felt an enormous amount of magic energy coming from under the ground belox every inches of the city. Her energy, her madness, her will and her power was everywhere in the city. The entire city was the property of Lamia and I could feel it. I was almost sure that every people could feel it and my friends gave me the confirmation.
« Do you feel that ? » Leah asked
« Yes » Kyle answered « This place is full of evilness »
« Not only that » I said « This place is full of Lamia’s energy, will and all of her. It is even impregnated of her madness »
« Maybe it would be better if we landed a little further » Leah said
Kyle and I nodded. We started our descent and landed around a mile away from the city. I could feel Lamia’s presence even more now that I was on the ground. I felt her power in every single cell of my body and it was terrifying. If I had been alone I don’t know if I would have had the courage to stay here. Kyle interrupted my thoughts.
« What do we do now ? » he asked « Do you know where we can find her exactly ? »
« No I don’t » I answered « I feel her everywhere in this city »
Right after I finished my sentence I felt a bigger amount of magic energy coming from the ground behind us. I made a sign to my friend. We turned around and saw an opened door. We hid behind a bush and saw two non-human shapes go out through this door. Lamia’s presence was even stronger behind this one. It was the entrance of her underground lair. I was sure of it.
« We have to go in there » I said
« Are you sure ? » Leah asked « It could be a trap »
« I’m sure that we’ll find Lamia in there but I’m also pretty sure that it’s a trap too » I answered
« I feel it too » Kyle added « It’s way too beautiful to be true ! »
« At least we know it » Leah sighed
Kyle and I took our swords out of their scabbards while Leah was notching an arrow on her bow. We went through this door.
What we saw behind this door was definitely a trap. There were plenty of monsters and some silhouettes made out of Mist and which can only be defeated by magic that I name Mistshape. We were surrounded but the room was small so the monsters couldn’t attack us all together. That was a chance for us because if they could have attacked all together we would have had no chance of winning. But like that we had a chance. A small one but still a chance.
« I take care of the Mistshape » I said
« And I take care of the flying monsters » Leah said
« And I take care of the others » Kyle added
We started to fight. Leah shooting arrows faster than ever and Kyle was fighting with all his forces against his opponents. They were doing there best. I had to do the same. I started to focuse and tried to do something that I’ve never done before.
« Will you start fighting someday ? » Leah yelled
« I’m trying to focus ! » I answered
« Focus faster then ! » she said « Those Mistshapes are impossible to kill with regular weapons ! »
I did as she said. Not because I wanted to of course but because I didn’t have any other choice. I had to act faster than ever because I was pretty sure that the Mistshapes could be defeated only by using magic. I first tried to modify them. I tried to make them fight with us and not against us. But it didn’t work. They were too full of Lamia’s energy and will. I felt that my own will was melting while I was trying to reprogram them. So I tried another strategy. I tried to create my own Mistshapes. I hadn’t done it before but I was sure that I could do it. I let magic energy run through my veins like I’ve never done before and started to visualize my Mist creations. I modeled the Mist to create my own Mistshapes. When I opened my eyes I saw fifteen new Mistshapes that were fighting the enemies Mistshapes.
« It works ! » I yelled « Yes ! »
« Yes it works ! Now could you help us ? » Kyle answered « We’re craving for help here ! »
I focused another time and made three others Mistshapes appear. I gave them the order to fight alongside my friends and also started to fight monsters by myself. I remembered all that I had learned and used my sword at the top of my skills. I wasn’t so good but there were so much monsters that almost every move I made hurt one. Kyle was way better than me was killing three monsters while I was only hurting one. But Leah was the best. Every arrow she shot hit her target.
« Not so bad Leah » I said
« I wish I could say the same about your sword skills » she answered « But at least your magic skills are good »
« Hey what the - » I started
« We’re in the middle of a fight » Kyle interrupted me « Your bickering could wait ! »
« No it could - »
« YES it could » Kyle yelled while killing another monster
I didn’t say anything more but I was too proud of my progress to let pass. I decided to show her what I could do. I focused another time and created an enormous fireball. I threw it on our enemies and looked at Leah with a bright smile.
« When will you remember that most of them aren’t sensitive to fire ? » she said
« When will I…. What ?! » I answered
I heard a sigh and turned back to our enemies. I saw that most of them were still there and showed no sign of burning. Another time Leah was right obviously. I swallowed my pride and I started to fight again.
The fight wasn’t won yet.
