CHAPTER 20 - VILLAIN

The Throne Room

Zeus' Palace

Mount Olympus

-Hades -

The extravagance and beauty of this place never ceased to amaze me.

But of course, my realm is more extravagant than this. I stifled the laughter that rose in my chest. Everything about my palace is better and more magnificent. It's just that the Underworld was forever tainted by darkness and the torment of souls while Olympus was said to be as pure and untainted as driven snow.

I looked around me and a contented sigh escaped my lips. How could I forget the lovely green hills? The white pillars and marble statues? The golden gates, fountains and jewels that glittered in the sunlight? The torches and braziers that always burned with Greek fire?

Zeus built all of this for Hera and he's done a great job. Poseidon's underwater realm was also beautiful in its own way but again, mine is the best.

Earlier today, I've already sent forth word of my arrival and asked the gods and goddesses to gather in the throne room. I don't usually exit my realm. I think I could still count between my fingers and toes the time that I left the Underworld since the dawn of time.

I only go to Olympus only when I am summoned for a Council of the Gods. The only other reason I exit my realm is to fight wars in the mortal world. Now, I am here without summons. Today, I am here to deliver a piece of news that I'm sure would shock the lightning bolts out of Zeus and all the other gods and goddesses– that is if any of them decided to show up.

When I arrived at the throne room, I was surprised to see the amount of gods and goddesses who decided to show up. Almost everyone was here.

I felt eyes on me with every move I made. Perhaps it was because of the rarity of my visits or then again maybe it was because this place was all light and purity and I was death and darkness.

I kept my resolve and continued walking. When I entered the throne room, silence fell as everyone waited for me to speak.

"Hello, brother. Welcome," Zeus said and then grasped my arm and clapped a hand on my back. Poseidon did the same. Hera and Amphitrite, Poseidon's queen, approached me and kissed my cheek. Other gods and goddesses murmured their greetings.

I cleared my throat and silence descended upon the room once more. It was the kind of silence wherein you could hear every sharp intake of breath or maybe even hear a pin drop. I looked around and saw curiosity in their faces.
